superb 190 dsg, are they 6 or 7 speed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I bet this had been covered before but typical me, I won't find it.

In another thread I posted that I just got a pre reg (18 reg) Superb Estate 190 ps dsg because couldn't get a factory order due to Skoda pulling the 190ps dsg from production just last month.

The Skoda price lists etc had shown the 190 Dsg and most if not all deg's as 7 speed and that's what I'd ordered.

However, this prereg definitely is a 6 speed.

So just wondered if anyone knows whether they once were 6 and then went to 7 at some point, and when that was.

And therefore wondering if my pre reg although a 18 reg might be a quite earlier car built before they went to 7

Although decoding the dealer sticker it shows it as built Dec 2017

Not worried but just a bit curious.

Maybe the price list was wrong and the 190 Dsg never was a 7 speed.

Thanks,

Dave

I know mine is an older Superb (2016) but mine is a 6 speed.  I can't be 100%, but it seems that the petrol cars get the 7-speed dry-clutch unit, and the diesel cars get a 6-speed wet-clutch unit.  Again, I am new to the whole Superb arena (having only got my car not even two weeks ago!) so I could be, and probably am, wildly off mark with this one.  I am sure that someone with infinitely more knowledge than I have will be along to answer.

Hope you're enjoying your car - I am certainly enjoying mine! :D

^^^ Nothing to do with DQ200 DSG 7 speed wet clutches as fitted with the 1.6 TDI CR's or Petrols with under 250 Nm torque output.

from 2009 & still now.

Sorry no idea when the 7 Speed Wet Clutch DSG's were fitted instead of the 6 Speed Wet clutch DSG.

Mines a 2018 model year 190 DSG and it is a 6 speed. I expected it to be a 7 but I’m not sure they put the 7 in the 190

Mine is a 7....  if you include reverse

Most certainly widely off the mark on that one.

The lower torque engines got a dry DSG7, while the higher torque ones get a wet DSG6.

Doesn't matter if TDi or TSi.

Lately, the wet DSG7 is replacing/phasing out the old wet 6.

My March 2017 built TSi has the wet DSG6.

My TDi 150 was Ordered Feb 2018 (delivered 28/04/18) and has the 7-Speed DSG.  Now that would suggest that 150's ordered from January would get the 7-speed but not sure if the 190 TDI was included in that, as I know the Petrols weren't included.  Wouldn't make sense to change the gearbox on only the 150 TDi though...

Thanks,

Guessing that the final drive 7 is the same as 6 but just with closer gears.

Maybe my pre reg has been siiting around a while before getting registered. Anyway, had it for a week and a half and it's a nice car

Not sure about that, as the DSG6 we test drove, ran 70mph @ about 2100rpm, the DSG7 we have, runs at around 1500rpm for the same road speed, and doesn't get above 2000rpm unless you are at around 80-85mph.

ok. Interestingly the rpm indicator on this 6 sits at 2000 rpm at a shade under 80 ie at 79 mph.

Driven both and can honestly say that I didn't notice that the rental car was a DSG7 until I looked at the MFD and saw a 7 instead of a 6 traveling @ 85mph.

Maybe a little better on the fuel but hardly something worth changing car for...

So does this new 7 speed wet clutch DSG box still have the same regular servicing requirement, i.e. gearbox oil/filter change IIRC every 40,000 miles/4 years?

No I agree, I won't be asking for a 7 and in fact there's not even a 190 ps Dsg in production now (only a 190 manual) which is why I found the pre reg, which maybe was the tail end Charlie car before they pulled it.

But a guess is that the Dsg 190 will be back if not already
