Samsung S8 connecting via Mirrorlink MIB2

Recommended Posts

Ok I’ve tried this till I could puke coathangers.
I've googled until I can google no-more.... and nothing is working.
My brand new Samsung S8 is mirrorlink enabled. One of the reasons I purchased it was for this very reason... so I could connect it via AndroidAuto AND Mirrorlink, to my MIB2 unit, which is also Mirrorlink enabled.

I’ve followed the instructions faultlessly on various interwebz sites.... installed rock scout and various versions of both LG mirrordrive and the Samsung mirrorlink car mode.

Android auto works flawlessly. So does CarPlay when connected to my iPhone.

But I CANNOT get mirrorlink working to display my phone screen on the info unit.

Now before anyone asks why.... Firstly, because there are certain apps (like a particular performance monitoring app) that I want to display on my info unit, and it's not an approved AA or CarPlay app.
And secondly, because I'm really anal about stuff like this, and if a function is supposed to be enabled/available (which in both cases - the phone, AND the car - it is), then I want it to actually damn-well work.

The video here shows that my phone home screen shows for the briefest of moments when double back arrow but won't stay on screen.

I cannot believe that a modern device has so much trouble connecting when it’s completely compatible and other devices in the Samsung range connect without any issues.
PS: my partner’s galaxy S8+ also will not display on MIB screen.

Has anyone here managed to get mirrorlink working properly and can write a clear tutorial, using a modern phone?

PPS: A mate of mine has also tried this... he said his mirrorlink worked perfectly with an older model phone, but now doesn't with his new phone either.

What Android version you having on the phone? I think I saw somewhere mentioned that the change to 8.0 broke Mirrolink.

I used to have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge as a work phone that I gave to my girlfriend, but I tried Mirrorlink on it and it worked just fine, including the Skoda apps. Her phone updated now to Oreo (8.0) so maybe I can give it another try and see if it still works.

...this will, of course, take some time - I need to get her in the car along with the phone ;)

Are you using the app called 'Car Mode'? My S7 (Oreo 8.0) prompted me to install that for MirrorLink to work.

Edit: ignore, I see you did

I have the same issue on my Huawei P10.

I shoehorned the EU version of Oreo 8.0 onto it before the car arrived and Mirror link will not work, despite being compatable.

Even the wifes Huawei Mate 10 Pro doesnt work, on it OR on Android Auto!

But I think the Huawei issues are different and more widespread.

So.... I gather then that nobody has managed to get this to work on a modern phone?

There's numerous youtube videos of people who have managed to get it working, but unless you speak German or Czech, there's no way of knowing what they're saying or doing.

And they don't have details as to model of info unit, so can't determine if it's a solution or not.

Bumping this again.....

Still nobody has any success?

I cannot believe that a modern car, and a modern phone, cannot talk to each other, even though it seems this is easy to achieve if you have an older-model phone that is still mirrorlink capable?

Can anyone suggest who exactly is to "blame" for this?
Is it the car manufacturer, the phone manufacturer, or the headunit (MIB2) manufacturer?

Can you explain exactly how?

I CANNOT get my S8 to connect via mirrorlink correctly.

Don't get me wrong.. it connects, but ONLY the "accepted" mirrorlink apps are available for use.
I want to connect my fone, so it's a true MIRROR connection..... so I can sit in traffic and read my facebook feed, etc, etc

(there is a degree of facetiousness in that comment..... but the premise is still correct. There are apps I want to access on the car info screen, while parked)

Don't worry, I wanted that mainly for TV apps and Brazzers ahahahah

Its pretty easy! Its a Glitch i guess, but it works, not 100% HD tough...

First you need to remove android auto and Samsung car mode, unsintall all those, you can only keep rockscout, LG mirrordrive ver. 1.2.1.2 ONLY and easy Touch (short cut button).

First you need to Run easy Touch on your phone. Configure the button your own way and adjust the apps, because you Will need it on the car. Open the APP and leave it running (ir should appear a round button on your screen)

1- connect to the car mirror mode and after connecting, it should appear the available apps. first close all apps on the car.

2-open rockscout (you should notice already the easy button) and chose YouTube

3-you get a message saying there arent any media available. Great. Click the button bsck to menu on top right (leaving the APP Open)

4-open LG mirror. It Will load and give you an error message! Great again! Algo click on the same bsck to menu button.

5-now click 1-1 button.

6- it Will Open back the rock Scout APP where you left on the YouTube "no media" folder

7-now select < and < and < on the top left untill appears your phone mirror.

Enjoy your porn!!!!!

If you don't get it to work i can make a video but I should sound like José Mourinho talking English lolololol

Thanks mate.  I'll give it all a try.
What exactly do you mean by configuring the button my own way?

Do you need to go through this long-winded process EVERY time you connect your phone via the cable?

Or once it's done the first time, it's automatic after that?
