Peeling Paint

Featured Replies

I noticed the other day that some of the paint was peeling from my front bumper.

It was happening on both sides on the corners alond the recessed ridge of where the vRS 'apron' bit of the bumper starts (if that makes sense).

Stupidy didn't take any pics but was bad enough to warrant a trip to the dealer who sorted it

Anyone else had this?

has your bumper been painted before to your knowlage?

I happened to have noticed this aswell the other day but its just on 1 side of the bumper. Could you tell me how they sorted yours out please, as i would say no if they spray the whole of the bumper as it has a few stone chips on :) .

thanx paul.

Only in the factory!

I think the repair will depend a bit on the dealer and bodyshop and how bad it is. If it is only one side and a small area then they may deem a local repair is sufficient.

If it quite a bit then they may respray the whole lot. Have a word with the aftersales manager and say that you might wait til it gets worse before having it done to get more bumper painted!!!!!

You will find that the paint peels like that when the bumpers have had a little knock.

The bumper flexes , but the paint does not.

So the paint lifts from the plastic then eventually it starts to peel.

So it sounds like someone has given you a little knock while your car has been parked up :(

Sorry

Certainly possible, but would this still occur on both sides?

Skoda warranty paid up

The paint shouldn't peel! If its had a knock then at most it will crack or scuff but if its peeling then there clearly an adhesion problem. :thumbdwn:

Paint on plastic is never great. On my old saxo the bumper will flake/peel every few months, the dealer repaired it 3 times but in the end they blamed my washing the car, so they would not fix it anymore

Only way to find out is to ask the skoda dealership

Just because it happens doesn't mean it should. ;)

We paint polyprop grilles for Land Rover and as long as it done right it will not peel!

Polyprop needs a special adhesion promotor for the paint to stick, also it the norm for bumper plants to 'flame' polyprop to change the surface tension and aid adhesion. If this is done correctly then the paint will not peel or flake. ;)

I had the same happen to me VRS a couple of months ago, again repaired under warranty.:D

Blimey.

I have refused warranty claims before on bumpers.

Skoda UK must think that there IS a problem then if they are oking these claims.

Mmm Nice one Skoda UK

I had a problem on my VRS with the front bumper, paint was peeling quite badly underneath, not a the edges, but in the middle section, only visible if you ducked down and looked.

Dealer got the whole bumper replaced with a new one and resprayed, no quibbles, new paintwork is very good indeed, very good finish so I'm pleased.

Suspect there is a problem that SUK know about otherwise it wouldn't have been so easy.

Worth checking out as the peeling on mine I only discovered by accident, once it starts to go it will just keep on peeling.

Nice one.

I wonder if there was a problem with the adhesion (spelling) and now they realise this.

Mmmm interesting.

Thanks for letting me know

Sarah

That's what the dealer said, they mentioned it was not worth repainting as there was a reason the paint didnt' stick in the first place.

Looks like im gona have a trip to my local dealer then. It will be my first time getting anything done on the warrenty as ive only had the car for a short period of time. So whats the best way of getting stuff sorted the way you want it. Shall i be all nicey nicey with them, or be mister grumpy & say im not happy at all.
