Columbus on MY17 can not find update files

Featured Replies

Hi team. I have an MY17 RS in Australia and although the Columbus recognises an update is available on the SD card it cannot locate any files to update it. I have the 2016/17 update as shown. The current version should be later than this but just doesn’t work despite following all the instructions here and on the Skoda website. Anyone able to tell where I’m going wrong with this?

I have ensured that the SD card has the three important items in the root folder, the text file and the MIB1 and MIB2 folders, and nothing else. I did this on an iMac. I haven’t cleaned the card with CleanMyDrive as was suggested somewhere. I’ve tried slots 1 and 2. Both register that there is an update available immediately after inserting the card but then when asking it to update through the system information screen it fails to find the software update files. Did anyone else with a Mac struggle to update their Columbus?

I believe this has been the kind of error all of the Aus/Nz users have reported with previous updates as well.

The maps are available but its not possible to install them...

I'm not sure I've seen a solution but perhaps one of the other users down under may be able to help...

Do this.

Many have had problem updating because of the files a Mac puts on the card.

Done so with that same program this morning. No advance on the outcome.

I’ve also used other cleaning programs on the SD card but no love there either. Any other suggestions? Anyone in Aus/NZ managed to update their Columbus?

Are you trying to update the satnav data, or are you trying to update the units software?

Because that software update page in the picture looks suspiciously like the unit software update page, rather than the satnav data update page...

I had the same issue, albeit with UK maps, alternate instructions are here which worked for me

I have been trying to update it through the System Information tab on the Settings menu.

Clicking on Update software ended up in a long search for files but didn't work.

Until I tried the above instructions, again cleaning up the SD card with Terminal commands, and this time it is working. Many thanks for your advice.

That procedure is for system software update. For maps data update, press "Nav" button - touch "Setup" (bottom right of the touchscreen) - touch "Version Information" - touch "Update Software".

Hey All,

Sorry to hijack this thread but was after a bit of help with a similar issue please.

I have an Australian MY16 Octavia RS with a Columbus MIB2 head unit.

I dropped my car in yesterday to my local SKODA dealer for a service and asked them if they could update the software (not maps) for the head unit.

However when i got home and checked the SW version nothing has changed?

Can anyone provide the latest software / firmware files for this Columbus unit and a process on how to run the update.

Cheers

I was having a problem updating my maps on a Skoda Octavia Mk lll Columbus. M50

The actions that I followed.

Download the latest map update from Skoda portal https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/&ved=2ahUKEwjQ346Cn_nyAhUjDGMBHaGSC48QFnoECBAQAg&usg=AOvVaw2AMlwAz8C-UhbcOTIVoUmQ

Follow the onscreen instruction, model, vin number etcetera.

This is a very large zip file and it took 3 hours, depends on your supplier.

Using a Windows system, I hear that Mac OS gives problems ,  unzipped (extracted) using 7zip to a destination that I could find again, leave it in your download folder if you want.

Then view this folder and you should see MIB 1 and MIB 2 plus a small text file, if you see another file, that will be a Windows system file, ignore this. Copy MIB 1, MIB 2 and the text file to a newly formatted 32 gigabyte SD card. This could take a while.

Open your glove box, Do not insert your key or press start. Press the large button on the lower left, turn off any media, radio and switch off your interior lights, (battery drain) Put your SD card in slot one and a message should appear on the top of the screen saying Slot 1 software update. Press navigation button, press the setup, then press or touch information. This shows you what your map info is. At the top it says update, touch this and it should go to your slot 1 SD card. Follow any instructions if any and wait. A % counter shows up, my update took about 45 minutes, can't really say as I left it to do its stuff. Then I open the navigator waited a couple of minutes and then took my card out. Working fine.

I hope that this helps.
