Blackvue Installation

Have dr 750s in mine good camra 2 going down lhside is easyer

Hey Johnny

I'm going to be replacing my existing 2 camera setup (hopefully today) for a duo camera setup so I will have a front dash-cam & the rear dash-cam plugs into the front camera just like your's (I believe) I would like to ask a simple question (rather than start another thread & seeing that you have done this) which route did you take to run/install the rear view camera wire (did you go via the roof lining) & if so? do you get any DAB problems? because I've heard of a few stories where the rear camera cable can impact the DAB reception/quality if run/installed with the DAB wire/aerial cable & seeing that you have an estate same as me.

Thanks

I had a front and rear cam "professionally" fitted, the rear cam made the DAB signal drop all the time.

Installers blamed the quality of the cable, and camera.

Camera manufacturer blamed the fitting and how cables were ran.

I just unplugged it for now.

Exactly! This is the one issue I want to avoid, if you take a look at this link https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/ its a fantastic forum for knowledge on dash-cameras & DAB etc. Seeing johnny has a Blackvue dash-cam his actual rear camera cable is coaxial so the shield quality is much better I believe compared to the USB type (which is what I have) But from stories I've read online, it is advised to run/install the rear camera cable as far away as possible from the DAB aerial cable (so even install the camera cable on the opposite side) & to be honest I don't find the DAB reception that great in the estate as it is! because I think it uses the estate rear side windows for it's reception/antenna?

That's a very neat installation!  Looks brilliant.

I didn't bother with routing my cables through the concertina-style cable tube thing that you've removed, as I tried to pry it off without any luck and didn't want to break it.
It's the one thing I'd like to tidy-up with my installation, as I have quite a long excess length of rear cable dangling down from the headlining to accommodate the rear camera, instead of a nice neat bit poking out, as you've done.

you can buy the tubes for £7 from skoda, unless you have power tailgate only one tube is used so you have one side free to do this.

Yeh I have the power tailgate... and just didn't want to mess with replacing them completely.

I assume they need to be replaced when removed? They get broken in the process of removing them?

You should be able to squeeze across the narrowest bits and get a trim tool in to release the clip.

You only need to release one end, I’d suggest the tailgate end and leave the other end fixed to the Car.

no they just pop out and back in again. they are quite robust. if you have power tail gate you should still be able to remove them and have enough slack.

to remove they i just squeezed near the middle of the grommet and wiggle and pull out, if that doesn't work a gentle lever with a trim removal tool.

ive got no issues with DAB reception, AFAIK the aerial for the estate/combi is in the rear side window and i ran the cabling down the passenger side (RHD) where most of the electricals from the boot are routed. Ive no issues with camera feed either.

That's a really tidy installation

I'm just looking at where to route the cable for mine, how easy was it to get the tailgate trim off?  I was hoping there'd be some hidden screws and it would just drop off...

I don't want to break bits of trim on a day old car

Also, how did you get past the B pillar?  I'm worried about the airbags

Other than getting my fists of ham in behind the dash for access to the fuses the rest looks straightforward

thanks!

the tail gate trim just pops out (lever out from the boot lid) then you pull it down about an inch where it meets the pillars either side of the window. It requires a fair amount of force.

i routed the cable over the top of the B pillar and then down behind the air bag in the A pillar which also pops out, again with some force required. I didn't need to remove the B pillar (seat belt fixings) but someone has posted a good image of how to do this further down the thread.

fuse access is the easiest part removal of the BCMs is not its a proper PITA.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but head over to THIS THREAD for a full run-down of what/where/how.

The rear-tailgate side of things is whaat I didn't cover in that writeup, which this thread handles pretty well.

Hope it helps.

@spinifex oh believe me, I've read that thread  from start to finish at least twice (have to do something at work..) the vast expanse of tailgate trim was giving me the night-sweats though, I'm not known for my delicate touch (ask Mrs Cakemonster..) and  @JohnnyType2 had obviously removed it.

its fairly robust and you would see the plastic stretch before it would break. some of the clips might work out but they are easy to refit. As mentioned the two corners nearest the glass must be pulled down then out as they slide up and in either side to refit

Spot on installation.

Yep i work in IT security as well. first thing ive changed in the firmware on the camera. You need a constant wifi hotspot in the car to broadcast live like that.

Found this diagram. This right that you take of airbag logo and it reveals screw on b pillar?

sorry i meant A pillar sorry its the bag that curtains the windscreen, you need to be careful to route behind the bag otherwise it could damage or wreck the bag if it ever goes off. I just routed the wire around the top of this pillar without taking it off

ran all the wiring behind the airbags also fitted with a magic pro to allow proximity recording.

impressive image quality and low light recording

Just on this, when you were running the wire from front, past the centre post to the rear, did you run it up top? If so, did you remove the trim to make sure the wire is above airbags? I understand there is an airbag running the length of the car, above the doors?

Along here is what I mean. I'm confident to do the wiring except as concerns airbag placement - that's freaking me out.
