WHAT IF

Featured Replies

I’m quite liking all these new grey colours like Skoda METEOR GREY  being used thro the range and also other manufacturers offering similar grey colours and was wondering WHAT IF THE YETI  had been offered in that colour option would you have gone for it because I think I would have.

Well, I wouldn't buy an SUV and prefer a gloss finish on cars, but like "gloss battleship grey (metallic)" as a colour.

I'm just back from the Netherlands/Germany/Austria and Italy, it all the rage as a Skoda colour over there ... tbh, I thought it was cars that had escaped in primer when I first saw the colour.

Not for me!

Not for me,

Although touching up scratches should be easy, just use primer :D

Absolutely awful colour!

No, I think it's completely minging and makes the cars look like they were painted with WWII surplus battleship paint.

Luckily we don't all like the same things; the world would be a very boring place

How rude :D

You don’t think it’s a bargain at £595 for a non metallic?

Just because I said I liked it didn’t mean I was prepared to pay the EXTRA £595 for a non metallic but obviously many are as it appears to be a VERY POPULAR choice now across Europe.

@Auric Goldfinger

Now there's someone who would love a meteor grey Yeti.

..not a colour I would want.....but then people still buy new cars and choose yellow...

Exactly, and I'd love a yellow Yeti, but as said, not to everyone's taste.

Perhaps it's not an 'extra' Over There

It does make you wonder why metallic paint was extra £xxx and now flat paints are an extra £595 ?

The biggest cost increase has been in the dyes and minerals that make up the paint. Following the Japanese sunami one of the only factories to produce one particular colourant in the word was destroyed, and that factory has had to be rebuilt, so prices shot up. Other colours use chemicals and minerals that are being used in other processes, so putting up costs.

And I hate to think what it would do to the residual value!

BLMC had a colour in the mid-seventies called Mirage. It almost had a colour change effect to it dependent on which angle it was viewed from.

Less flatteringly referred to as Primer Gloss within sales - I liked it though and used it on the Minor 1000 I built with a new shell in 1974 (they were selling off brand new shells for £95 - ahh happy days).

I like these understated colours (and pastels) but my favourite has to be a bright warm yellow.

I notice that the free energy blue is referred to in the trade as doom blue ,and they also charge over £200 for white and nearly £1000 for the velvet red metallic ,that must have some pretty rare minerals in it,perhaps hens teeth!

I know it can be difficult to make meaningful price comparisons between manufacturers and models but between the Skoda Karoq and SEAT Ateca there is a lot of common ground (body and being manufactured in the same factory!) and so it is interesting that even on the poverty spec. Ateca metallics are a no cost option including the Velvet Red which for the Karoq is as said getting on for £1000! How can that be explained!

Given that the Karoq is a relatively new model one can't but think that Skoda (i.e. VWG) are wantonly profiteering?

I'd discounted the Ateca out of hand because of the reports on the gloomy interior and firm suspension but am now considering it as it seems better value for money for the spec. I want, which is fairly high. I've had cars with dark interiors in the past, so can live with that and our other cars have pretty firm suspension so perhaps it won't be that bad.

Trouble is that like the Karoq, unsurprisingly, delivery times are getting bad. I will have a look but I've pretty much lost interest in changing my car for the time being.

It would have been nice to see it as a colour option. Not enough variety was available really.

I like it on some cars, but I don't think it would work on the Yeti's shape. You need to see these things in the flesh anyway!

I do think some manufacturers are taking the p*** with the extra paint prices personally and find it very difficult to accept a £1000 + extra for a specific colour,I recently changed my car and only had a choice of 3 colours (all metallic) at no extra  cost.i find this with all the vag range that the price quoted you can usually ad on quite a few thousand to get the options you want plus a paint colour.really ?
