Octaiva 2014 Elegance 1.6TDI DSG

Featured Replies

Afternoon,

Just wanted some feedback. Im currently in a 2016 Fabia Monte with the 90 TSI engines.

For a various reasons mainly my PCP and out growing the Fabia... im looking in to my options.

I have been offered 1.6 TDI with DSG. Added extras includ KESSY and a full.length sunroof which are both quite nice. Just be i go to test drive it would just like feed back from those currently running a similar car.

I do 26miles each way to work... to work its mostly lanes and A road, but using a motorway and dual carriageway on the return trip.

Be interested in your thoughts

Thanks

I have a 1.6TDi DSG and a 1.2TSi Octavia.

I've previously had several Fabia's including a 1.2TSi 105.

I do a 30 mile each way commute, mainly A roads and Motorway.

Obviously space in the Octavia is in a different league. I have an Elegance and the ride on the 17" is firmer than any Fabia I've had around town but you have a Monte which is firmer so maybe not. The payback is stability on faster roads.

You will find the TDi noisier than the TSi but the 7 speed box in the DSG is a better match to the tdi than the 5 speed manual.

I commute early in the morning and easily manage 65mpg, coming home is heavier traffic and economy falls to around 55mpg. This is easily 10mpg better than our TSI Octavia on the same route at the same speeds.

Another note on the Octavia v Fabia. All our Fabia's have economy that dropped away at 70+mph, the aerodynamics of the Octavia seems better at higher speed and you can push along on the motorway without the big economy hit.

Have a good check around the panoramic roof as they are known to get blocked drains and leak into the cabin.

Thanks for the informative reply.

I work for a Mercedes CV dealer so deal and drive alot of Diesel vehicles. So the noise difference isnt really a massive factor.

Im hoping to have a closer look and drive on Sunday. Just hoping the 105 feels enough.

CRASH67, what do you mean by offered, as in to buy or lease new or used for a good price ?

Is it not worth getting a petrol Octavia, or is that not an option.

If you are used to a 90TSI Fabia then the 105 should feel fine especially with the 7 speed DSG.

Just make sure the deal is right. The Market is pretty flooded with diesel Octavia's and they are now a fair bit cheaper than petrols.

That was the reason I went diesel this time even though my last few Skoda's have been TSI's.

If you plan to keep it and not going into  ULEZ areas then diesel can be good deal at the moment.

Agree with the above, the anti diesel rhetoric is hurting values, but if you buy keenly and you don’t live near London, a good all round deal can be had. I paid a good £4-5k less than what I would have paid for a similar petrol vRS, and plan to sell my car on once it’s worth about that anyway, which represents about 50% of the price I paid initially. That would mean looking at a selling price of around £9-10k 2.5-3 years from now on a 14 plate car with 130k on the clock which I don’t think is at all realistic. This time around, diesel is the better bet for me.

The 7 speed DSG is a much better match for the 1.6 TDi than the manual, which is good. Spec sounds good too so it could be a winner if the price is right.

Offered is a term i use loosly. As the dealer im deal with knows im looking and this car has just arrived for 10490.

Ive put my self in a awkward spot with the Monte and if go the full term will be in a spot of bother i feel.

At the half way point ive done my pcp term of milage.. due changes in circumstances. Not help but my reluctance to deal with it.

As it turns  while im currently in negative equity already its not unmanagble just yet.

All the maths ive done seems to point out a change now maybe benefical.

Really i prefer petrols to diesels. As i worked round diesels long enough to know some of the expensive issues surround the current comman rail engines used and things like DPFs but after looking at just my commuting milage i can save £50 pm on fuel alone!.
