Smart Light Assist via VCD

Featured Replies

I have just purchased a fully Aussie specced Superb. For some reason unknown to me Skoda Australia decided against including SLA but all the features (the camera and lights are there) I guess they are disabled via factory software.

is it possible to enable the SLA, keen to add the LED “lashes”?

Totally different lights I’m afraid.

Thanks @GizmoMy car has the lights but they are not activated.

i read on another forum that someone has managed to activate them via VCD.

Are you 100% you have the LED whiskers in the lights?

All the lights have whiskers, but on the non SLA lights they are just black plastic mouldings.

If the car has been built with the ‘wrong’ SLA headlights then yes they could be coded, not come across anyone who has the correct lights that have not been coded though.

I believe it’s unique to Australia, they have all the lights functions apart from SLA.

someone mentioned on here that he was able to activate it via VCD.

I’m waiting delivery but I have attached a pic of the lights.

You need to be clear about 'smart light assist'. There are two definitions commonly mixed up by marketing/sales people. In the first they mean the auto switching between high and low beam, the correct definition refers to the more complex 'shadow technology' where the beam is on full beam at all times and areas that  may dazzle are shaded when required.

In the UK (Europe?)  it is the latter that have the 'whiskers' and as Gizmo says they are entirely different units and gubbins. The standard bi-zenons (adaptive light system) have what looks like the whiskers but they do not contain any lamps so they cannot display any light. It is not possible to see the difference by just looking and software mods obviously wouldnt be possible if the hardware isn't there

I dont understand why Oz would provide the more complex and expensive version and not have the whiskers enabled; in fact I am not sure they could disable them anyway. Hope this helps you to check out which type you have.

They don’t look like they have the LEDs (but they are difficult to spot)

Im pretty sure they could be coded out though (but not sure why they would)

In the UK they are not lit with just the DRLs, but can be coded to come on with the DRLs.

That may have been what I was thinking about! :blush

Have you got a link to the relevant info please Mr Gizmo?

This is the way I usually code them (rear sidelights come on with the from DRLs as well):

Thanks to Antera for the following:

Coding Eyelashes always on in the headlights S3

(To check if you have SLA fitted and therefore eyelashes that will light up, make sure you headlight part No.s end in B and not A... 3V* 941 01* B, the * determines if the car is LHD or RHD and whether it is the left or right headlight, which is why I have not included these digits)

Open the bonnet and check the part number on ur headlight.

If it ends in "B", u have SLA capable headlights.

If it ends in "A", the headlight does not have the hardware for SLA.  U can only go as high as HBA.

As far as I know, all Australian specc'ed Superbs come with version A.

I've done some detailed research between the A and B version headlights - there is difference in hardware internally, different AFS controllers, and different coding.

All 3 stars need to be aligned before u can get SLA.

The lashes only work with the B version.

I'm currently doing a retrofit to mine.

I've got all the necessary bits.

Just need to find time to install it.

Thanks @JR RS for the detailed information.

I’ll check the part number once I receive the car.

if you don’t mind me asking what were the necessary bits you needed to retrofit  to yours?

based on research, the part numbers below are what is required.

however this is assuming the wiring harness from the car to the headlight is the same.

once i install, connect and code everything up, i'll know for sure if indeed the SLA is working, and of course, the bonus eye lashes - or "whiskers" as i like to call them :D

  • 1x   3V2941015B - RHD Left
  • 1x   3V2941016B - RHD Right
  • 2x   4H0 941 329 - AFS/MDF Control Unit

i've also seen newer 3V2941017B & 3V2941018B part numbers.

3V1 are LHD headlights.

non-SLA cars will have:-

  • 1x   3V2941015A - RHD Left
  • 1x   3V2941016A - RHD Right
  • 2x   8U0 941 329 - AFS Control Unit

Hi @JR RS. I'd be really interested in hearing how you get on with this. Any chance of a write-up once you've had a go at it?

most definitely planning to take lots of pics and do a write-up on this.

There's a familiar face! I'm doing some research on DLA and came across SLA hoping my car could have it lol.

Hi, are you doing all of this to get just the whiskers to work? Or are you planning implementing auto high beam-low beam functions? If so, don't you also need traffic sign recognition camera for that to work?

Can't wait to see what you end up with, since I also want to get SLA to work. But I want just the whiskers))

I'm doing it to get the fancy always on dynamic/masking high beams.

My Superb comes with the TSR Lane Guidance camera.

I've already got HBA enabled and working.  It uses the camera to do the auto high beam.

SLA utilises the same camera.

The whiskers I'd certainly love to have.

Tis a bonus.
