Keys and the Karoq

Featured Replies

Having tried to decipher the handbook/manual regarding the 2.0 4x4 DSG.diesel regarding starting and Kessy,  Is the car driven without the key inserted where it would be in a manual car for starting purposes not clear in the book.  It says that the car will start if when sitting in you put you foot on the brake.  Secondly how deactivated is deactivated, should you still put it in a tin box or a faraday bag.  Next door has just had his car removed by people using the magic box the key was on the kitchen table overnight.

I should add that the stolen car was not a Skoda

You need to put your foot on the brake and push the start button, if you push the button without the brake it will just turn on ignition, hope this helps

Key is not inserted and has to be nearby, I have not experimented to see if it can be started at what range, the dealer I think said a meter.

I have bought a Faraday pouch to store key in overnight as a just in case measure after doing some research. JLR have had this issue and not sure if they have managed to solve it, not sure how VAG security is handled and gave up googling and just bought a Faraday pouch to be sure.

In the front of the storage box between the front seats there is a rectangular shaped recess that you can place the key in. I just use my pocket.

BTW if you leave the key in the car, you cannot lock the car.

my wife never takes it out of her handbag and she puts that behind front seat

I throw my backpack to rear seats, key is always in it. Works fine...

But doesn't that mean that anyone can get into the car and drive away with your key on the rear seats?

Doors lock automatically when your drive off  ;)

But before driving off, there is a short time at risk  :D

I see ... misunderstood your post  :)

It is worth noting that's for the DSG.

On a manual you use the clutch pedal instead to choose whether the engine starts or only the ignition is turned on.

The flickering brake lights whilst starting the engine would not do my OCD any good :D

I have found the deactivation to be effective and use it every time I park.  When KESSY is activated the doors will unlock if the key is within a foot or so of the car.  When deactivated you can hold the key against the door handle and it won't unlock.  The only downside is that you must remember to deactivate every time you lock the car.

I keep the key in a drawer in the lounge at the back of the house.  To be doubly safe I have also invested in a Stoplock steering wheel lock.

I have mine in my handbag and leave it in the passenger seat or back seat. However, I had it in my pocket the other day and jumped out to close a gate just in front of the car and it triggered the immobiliser so It's quite sensitive. I don't have anything extra for it but then I have on-street parking a little way away from my house.
