Xenon Headlight Ballast

Featured Replies

Afternoon all

I have a 58 plate Superb with Xenon lights and the near side light failed suddenly last week. The bulb has been swapped out and it still hasn't fixed the problem. Reading posts here and on line reference is made to the ballast which is mounted close to the headlight unit. My couple of questions are

1. Has anyone else had this fault and it was definitely the ballast that failed?

2. Did it appear as a fault on the VCDS scan of the car?

3. Where exactly is the ballast unit on the car? Attached to the body or is it attached to the headlight unit?

Ballast is on the underside of the headlight, here is an image from eBay.

The silver box is the xenon ballast and the black box is the AFS/range control module (moves the xenon projector up/down/left/right).

Brilliant!

That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again. When I looked at the unit in the car I could only see the black box and not the aluminium case. So it looks like its light out as a minimum and problem to do that its bumper off too.

Now I just need to rule out any other possible faults and get it fixed.

Thanks Langers for this.

As a help to others who might find this thread with the same problem I sourced a new ballast and the replacement has sorted the problem.

I should point out that Skoda parts wanted over £250 for their version of the component.

I managed to find this website https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/ and bought a hella replacement for £83 including postage from Germany.

The Hella part is brand new and appears to have been manufactured in sept of this year.

I love the fact that you've obtained a new ballast without having any idea what to do with it ... :D

You should read threads for updates before posting...

I showed them exactly where it is a month ago and they just confirmed the new one is fitted and working ;)

Exactly.

I knew what to do with it. I even knew that my hands couldn't get in there to change it myself. And I also know how to go back through threads to see whether there is more relevant information available.

Have a nice day vborovic.
