VRS Child Seat ISO Fix Loose

Featured Replies

Hi all,

we are expecting our first child soon and tried to fix a ISO fix base to the rear seats but it was moving side to side freely. It was worrying, and I’m unsure if this is normal?

It it was a maxi cosi family fix base.

Anyone help out with some experience on the matter? Is this normal? Should it be sliding side to side?

Definitely not normal. We have a maxi Cosi base and it doesn't move at all. Have you locked it into the isofix correctly?

Is it the Family Fix base you have?

It it wouldn’t make a difference with me having leather seats?

I must have not clicked it in correctly if you are saying yours doesn’t move left to right.

The arms of the isofix should be on a sort of ratchet system where they get locked in the more you push the base into the seat. Going on the photos of the base, make sure you have the leg adjusted nearly right. Then with the arms clicked into place, grab it at the top of the leg and push the base side to side. You may need a fair bit of force to get it snug and even.

No ours is an easy fix though it looks similar. With ours after you put the isofix bits on the rail on the isofix points in the car, you have to adjust the front leg thing and push it towards the back of the base so it slides the arms with the isofix connectors until it locks in. There should be some green indicators on the leg for when it's in the correct position.

Looking at images online, looks like yours is a bit posher and you might do this with those grey slider bits on the right and the leg on the front.

I clearly haven’t fitted it as snug as it should be then.

Thanks for the help - new to all of this!

Hi, welcome to parenthood!

I used the family fix base and had the same problem in my car; but strangely not in my previous car.

I found that fully extending the isofix connectors, lining them into the rails in the car and then forcefully pushing them in helped secure it so it was solid. I always used to move the passenger seat forward so I could squat in the back to get behind it when pushing.

If memory serves me correctly, the very bottom of the backrest seems to jut out a bit which then gets in the way...hence the forceful push squashes the padding and solidifies the base in.

Sometimes it might take 2-3 goes of left side then right side  but it will stop moving , then just adjust the leg so it turns green. Prob about 1 or 2 clicks max.
