Creaking - subframe? Thoughts??

My 2.0 TDI 16' plate estate drove me crazy with creaks, groans and knocking noises - until I told the Mrs to get out and walk....

I bought a can of WD40 'specialist" Silicon spray and the same but PTFE spray, I blasted every bush and linkage I could see underneath and the annoying noises ceased immediately.

I might be imagining it but the car felt more 'planted' on the road and the suspension more supple, better all round really.

Hi StriderDog, quick question. Did you use both, the silicone spray and a ptfe spray on the bushes?

Hi Grc, I used the PTFE spray a week before and although it made a small difference it didn't cure the noise. I then used the silicone spray and squirted every bush I could see after crawling around the car, this did the job.

Although the rattling has started up again due to the floods and heavy rain we've had it's probably washed away the spray, I dosed it up again Monday and it stopped immediately.

I only used the WD40 sprays as they come with a very useful integrated nozzle and I thought coming from WD40 range it should be better than some generic stuff..

Good luck!

Hi StriderDog,

Thanks a ton for the detailed explanation. I got a 2018 Octavia whose suspension has been creaking for a while now. The creaking sounds drive me nuts especially when I’m going over a speed breaker. Will give the WD40 Specialist Silicone spray a try one of these days. Cheers.

Hi, have you found the problem to the creaking sound? My car has the same issue.

69 plate 1.5 tsi loud creeking over speed bumps , recently had it in garage they couldnt see any issues

Invested in wd40 silicone spray, not entirely sure where exactly I'm supposed to spray it , any help appreciated

Front console bushes and antiroll bar bushes. Google and search images ... do not spray anywhere near brakes or if windy where over spray will carry. Including inside surface of brake disc.

Speaking from experience, get some bin bags and stuff them over the discs/calipers anyway. Don’t ask😆

Car passed it's mot , I asked to have the bushes lubricated , still creeking over speed bumps

Going to replace anti roll bar and bushes, cars done 94k and used as a taxi so probably due some new ones rather than pfaff about spraying them, is there a brand or a site for the bushes I should look out for ?
