Skoda Yeti 110hp CV joint replacement

Featured Replies

Just replaced the CV joint on a 2014 2.0tdi 110 hp 2WD Yeti. the CV on the 110hp is a 33 spline (internal) 36 external which is different to the 140hp.  The part number seems to be 5M0498099.

The job was relatively straightforward.

1 remove road wheel to allow the removal of the wheel centre cap.

2 Replace and lower to allow the removal of the hub bolt when the wheel is on the ground (you could apply the foot brake). The original bolt was a 12 point 24mm I removed it with a 15/16AF.

3 Jack the vehicle back up and make safe (axle stands)

4 Remove the three 16mm lower ball joint securing nuts (photo).

5 Push down the wishbone and pull the whole strut / hub assembly out and off of the CV joint (you may need to turn the steering). The inner CV remains attached and there is plenty of room to work I rested it on the track rod end.

6 Remove the boot ties

7 Hold the CV straight and screw in the old hub bolt until it pushes the CV off its retaining circlip.  This will take some force, I used an impact gun.

8 Remove the old boot and clean things up.

9 Install new boot, the new CV may have a different OD so you may not be able to reuse the old boot.

10 Fit new circlip if req. The new one I got with the kit was thicker and didn't work for me, I re used the old one.

11 Pack the new CV with grease and install onto the driveshaft.  I screwed in the old bolt and gave it a tap with a soft faced mallet to get it over the circlip.

12 Fit the boot ties and re assemble in the reverse order.

Tips

I tried to hammer the old CV off at first and got nowhere, using the old bolt worked best.

Watch the old boot size, I thought the old one looked better quality than the new one and was going to retain it but the new CV had a smaller OD

The new hub bolt may be a different size.
