Dpf figures

Recommended Posts

Nothing out of the ordinary.

With those soot mass values, it'll probably do a regeneration soon which fits with 420km since the last one.

Oil ash volume is the value that determines the lifetime of the DPF. It's suggested that the max is ~175ml but these is nothing official from VW/Skoda to confirm it. Based on that, the estimated lifespan for your DPF is currently 175k miles which is certainly within normal limits.

Umm, I'll need a little more direction :tongueout:

"Meas. Blocks - 08" is greyed out, so I hit "Adv. Meas. Values"?

I'm guessing I took a wrong turn at some point...

You're spot on so far: scroll down the list and you'll find a bunch for the DPF. Check the box for the ones you want to read.

Got it, thanks!

So I'm at 130ml, with an estimated DPF life thought to be around 175ml, which I calculate to be 74% full?

Given that I've done 153,000 miles and assuming everything remains constant, then I have another 39,780 miles left before my DPF dies (193,000 miles in total)?

Correct.

Some other forums say there isn't a hard limit at 175ml and people claum to have hit 200-250ml without issue. I think some even are above 300ml!

Unfortunately, I don't think VW or Skoda have officially released a maximum.

From reading the service literature I have, it's not oil ash loading per se that sets the limit, it's how much the ash that's there limits flow through the filter. It mentions measuring DPF volumetric efficiency using diagnostics:

Quote

TDI Common Rail engines (1st and 2nd generations):
– Select »Targeted functions« and further »engine« and then
start »check volumetric efficiency of the particle filter volume«
⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
– If the limit value of the ash mass is reached or exceeded (if the
test result is negative), the diesel particle filter has to be replaced
⇒ Relevant Engine; Rep. gr. 26 .

I'm not sure where this function lies in VCDS (if it's even implemented) though.

Yesterday just measured mine with 204k km, and having 0.120 ml oil ash. (CFGB) (I often make long trips by the way)

The software was the official service type and also written inside that 0.550 ml is the max.

the guy told me it should be wrong for me because its too low, with this milage it should be around 0.2-0.25.

It could be easily owerwritten as well or reset the value, so it is not a bible...

Anyway i try to belive the good value :)) I never had issue and alwasy recognize and take care of regen.

Just checked

Mine has 0,25 l.

353 000 km / 220 000 miles.

Is it time for new DPF?

Getting EGR changed next week, the exhaust is black of soot.

It's probably got some life in it, but if you have the cash and plan to keep the car, it would be good to change it when you're getting the EGR done: most of the labour is shared.

If You do not have issue with dpf i think it doesnt make sense to change it. I would propose the cleaning if You really want to do something

The DPF must be removed in order to replace the EGR so it makes since to replace both if there's any concern about the DPF's remaining life.

0.12l of ash at 204km or ~126k miles is fine. Interesting about the 0,55l maximum, hadn't come across that information.

If it's working normally, I'd probably leave it. If Juhagpl is correct about the 0.55l maximum it has plenty of life. If it is being removed to access the EGR it might be worth having it cleaned?

I will have a look next time I do a static regen, it gives a max figure I'm sure.

Excellent :)

Sry , for sure it is 204k km :)

What i am thinking if the dealer during my egr change had reset the value...

Seems unlikely the dealer would reset the DPF parameters.

Silver has 0.13l at 153,000 miles (~246,000km).

I have 0.11l at 149,000 miles (~240,000km).

These cars are both on their original DPF so I'd suggest that your car with 0.12l at 204km is perfectly normal. You mentioned long trips, this is what the DPF likes ;)
