Thanks to this web site/people on here ive managed to get Marlborough

Skoda to see the error of their ways.

Or should that read ,yes i DO have rights and id like to use them. Please.

After quoting a few of you on here they admited that there is a 30 day exchange plan, the only disapointing thing is i had already asked/pleaded

{well almost  }with them to swap the car but they were reluctant and said they would repair it, but NEVER said anything about my right to another vehicle.

So...... Marlborough dont have any TDi's and can only get hold of 1,

Glad to see things looking up for you , its bad when something happens to a new car youve just bought , it takes away that 'glow' you get for a few months after the purchase , when you feel like a kid with a new toy! Personally I'd go for the 4x4 , but if you got rid of the RS coz of the gas milage , then the 4x4 is likely to be worse , at best equal to the RS. So if you are worried about this above all else , get the TDi....but it seems the 4x4 is a fun car to drive , and different in caracter to the RS...its a hard choice you have to make!

Glad to hear you got a result!

Before I vote, remind me what engine is in the TDi.

1.9 turbo diesel, 110 bhp.

Steve

I voted.

Just drive slowly. :D

Pleased to hear you got them to see sense , I have voted , but had you put the vRS down as well I would have voted for that :!:

Steve

Be dispassionate and think hard about why the RS had to go! If fuel consumption is a major consideration then it has to be the TDi. (The 4x4 uses more fuel than the RS). If you want a car that is practical, fun and ultimately as tuneable under the bonnet as the RS, then it has to be the 4x4. I started off shopping for the 110bhp TDi and ended up with a 4x4. The coil pack problem apart, I have absolutely no regrets. THE 4X4 IS FUN AND IT [b:eee4daf3a3]DOESN'T[/b:eee4daf3a3] COME IN YELLOW!

:cat:

Think hard about what YOU want. I voted for the 4x4 because that's what I'd want. It might not suit your needs or budget though...

Steve,

As said before above it's a PITA when somthing goes bad , especially on what is essentially the 2nd largest purcahse you make after houses.

Now I voted for the 4x4, not because I have one or I think the diesel is a bad motor. But because at 150bhp, driven normally it's a very good car, no worse than the RS on fuel consumption and perhaps more rewarding to a driver than the diesel.

Okay so the diesel wins hands down there, by a long long way, another 10-15mpg perhaps. FYI with mine chipped at a steady crusie I pull in around 30-32mpg. Not so great but I get in retun a good lvl of equipment and of course the 4x4 system, which suits my current driving desire very well.

Again as said before, get what YOU want, I think in this case I'd be pushing the dealer for extended tests, at least overnight, if not weekends. This might aid you in your choice.

In normal mode the 4x4 will make good progress, but only if you really push it will it get you in to trouble like you might of had in the vRS.

Go for a play and score them based on your needs.

oh and the price, push them very hard on that, 12k for 19,000 miles is a bit high in my estimates, assuming it's a 51 plate.

One other thing, most cars on the dealers forecourts are skoda uk stock on loan or in a pool, I'm dam sure if you were looking for new or nearly new they would find more....if your on a legal stonghold re exchanging your car, push and push of course skoda uk might be worth a call, if not already done.

Steve

I agree with Colin about price. I paid

steve,

glad that you are in a position to make a choice. however, i remember that you were concerned about the mileage of your RS. having driven the leon TDi which has the same engine as the octavia tdi, i would say that no matter how judiciously you watch your speed in the 4x4, you will get LOADS more miles in the diesel without a shadow of a doubt.

also, take into account the main type of driving you will be doing. remember that you can easily increase the performance of the tdi with a tuning box/chip etc. and it will become a rapid car with very little impact on mileage - i know because i've done it.

in case you haven't guessed already, i voted tdi.

cheers mate and hope that whatever you end up with will suit you down to the ground.

Steve,

I had an Octavia TDI estate and it was great. Averaged around 50mpg and I certainly don't pussy foot around; as an indicator on average I get 30-32mpg for the vRS!

If mpg is your main concern but you want a bit of fun still, why not get the TDI and have it chipped? A HOPA unit from AmD will give you in the region of 140bhp, above 200lbs/ft2 and still return 52mpg. :thumb: 8)

I read that the mpg around town is even improved a little due to the improved throttle response (i,e, you don't ned to gun it so much).

I was was toying with having the chip done on my TDI but a new car is a new car!

I liked the idea of the 4x4 but was put off by the consumption and wanted something a little different.

Just MHO.

Adrian.

I liked the idea of the 4x4 but ... wanted something a little different.[/quote:2a35d94236]

That's a non sequitur. The 4x4 [b:2a35d94236]is[/b:2a35d94236] a little different! 8)

If you *have* to keep the costs down then it has to be a TDi, it's really the only option....

But if you miss the performance side then a 4x4 (even unchipped) will put a smile on your face and *can* see 37mpg on Mways etc.

Not really helping here am I? :? Guess it's one of those "heart or head" decisions, but even the sensible choice (TDi) can be chipped, or the 4x4 is cheaper insurance than RS so could be seen as the sensible choice.

I guess a 4x4 is sensible compared to the RS, but a TDi is sensible compared to a 4x4.

I voted 4x4, cos (for me) it's a great combination of practicality, Qcar looks, space, and no worse fuel economy than other "boring" petrol family cars, certainly a lot better than things like the impreza and forester I was comparing it with.

Steve

[b:9efbcdf7f6]Please[/b:9efbcdf7f6] hurry up and make a decision  so that we can all get a good night's sleep! Flip a coin if needs be.

We took the 4x4 out for 3 hours today and loved it :D .

I was about to 'sign' on the dotted line when the sensible one {wife?}

spotted a problem with the price?

I wont go into one now, im going to speak to the boss tomorrow but suffice to say all is NOT well.

Hopefully i'll have better news then :!:

Steve,

I am really pleased you loved it. The price is of course the sticking point in any deal...I don't know of your circumstances, i.e. if your bound to that dealer for purchasing, but I have been told of UK spec 4x4's in the South with delivery mileage for 12.5k...Of course colour etc might be limited.

All the best with the price, I tend to do as you and let my heart sign the line then get a telling off when I get home :D

Really chuffed you liked it. I take it the TDi is still to be considered...

It seems I have one of the few un-chipped 4x4's left on this forum, so I can say with some commitment that the mpg isn't all that bad. On a long Friday night motorway run up to the Lakes from Berkshire (average speed 55-60 if you believe the trip computer) I get around 450 miles from a tank before I fill up, which is around 39 mpg.

Around town commuting it's about 29 mpg.

Although I have a 4x4, if you think you're going to change it again (ie. within a year or so) you're better off getting the TDi as their residuals are much better. If you think you're going to keep the car for a while, then get the 4x4, it'll be more fun to drive and in the wet & icy roads it'll be a lot more secure on the road. It's probably more pricey on the insurance than the TDi though, but then it won't annoy your nieghbours early in the morning when you start it up like the TDi

FYI; the 12.5k 4x4 estates that were on sale recently in the south with delivery miles were mint/lime green (yuk!) with strange 15 inch wheels. My local dealer had one, It looked awful in that colour, with the little wheels looking lost in the arches. :(

Where do i start :?:

To cut a long story short{3 days at the dealer :!: :!: } there was a problem with the price i paid for the TDI. It would appear i was charged

Well done, a result! :D

But bearing in mind I've just done a search for your previous posts re: why you got rid of the vRS in the first place, what does 'the boss' think of that decision. Oh, to have been a fly on the wall...

Steve

Well done!!! Now dont let her go a second time!

Just come in from a SLOW drive down the A24 to boxhill{my 2nd home  }. Oh how i've missed her!!!.

Im obviously well happy and will never ever ever complain again about petrol/ insurance or any other car relaited expense.

To be fair to myself we also sold the car to help finance something else which fell through making the sale of the car pointless, so it was always

a sore reminder when i saw it at Marlborough.

I must say 1 more time a big THANK YOU to those of you who helped/brought to my attention the SKODA 30 DAY EXCHANGE PLAN.

Long live Briskoda and all who write on 'er :P :D :P
