Does adaptive cruise control in Superb works from standstill? Or there is minimal speed limit?

  • If I recall correctly off the top of my head, it will either drop down in 1 mph/kph steps or set the ACC speed to whatever your current speed is, assuming your current speed doesn't match what your se

20mph is the lowest setting.

It operates when crawling in traffic queues though.

Oh yes :)

as others have mentioned, the minimum speed it can be set to is 30km/h

i can activate ACC when i'm stopped, or accelarating.

i can't turn it on while braking.

So you cannot crawl from start stop then... thats disappointing. Maybe I should buy a Mercedes next time :D

? Yes you can, if you have DSG.

You just can’t enable it when stopped with your foot on the brake pedal (as this cancels it). You need to take your foot off first (or have autobrake on so you don’t need to keep the pedal pressed).

As the car in front pulls away, the system will be ready to follow (e.g. engine will start). If you’ve only stopped for a few seconds, off it’ll go. If more, you get a message on the maxidot that it is ready, and you can either tap the accelerator or pull the control stalk to get going.

I'm not sure how u managed to intepret that.......

Yes u can crawl, down to 0/stopped, resume to any speed (set above 30 km/h as a min.), then stop again, then resume.

U don't have to necessarily hit the minimum set speed. U can bounce between 0 and say 10, then 0, then 20, then 0, then 60, then 0 etc etc.

It works 'spot on' in bumper to bumper , stop-start traffic. Use it all the time.

It will creep forward, feather the throttle and clutch (DSG only) better than any person can repeatedly. Even bumper to bumper uphill (and downhill).

Excellent piece of kit

Couldn't agree more.  Coming through the motorway roadworks around Stoke, the only time i touched the pedal was when stop start had kicked in. Outside of that, the car took care of the brakes and accelerator and i steered. Cruise control was set to 70mph the whole time. Lovely to use.

Top limit is 160 km/h. Just tried it again last week :)

Nice! But remember it is only some poor souls (like us in the UK) who are limited to 160km/h. Others are limited to 210km/h.

Really? Which "others"?

Be that as it may, cruising at 160 km/h (in Germany) is still occasionally realistic; at any speed significantly over that it would virtually never be the case.

here in Oz, its set to 210 km/h.

.......even though the max we can legally drive at is 110 km/h!!!!

I suppose for a few thousand more the Mercedes wouldn't come with Auto Cruise so it wouldn't be a problem. :blush

Although you know now it works a treat..... B)

I'm interested to know if the brake lights show when the car slows suddenly with ACC?

Yes they do.

Thanks Jeff.

I got a new Fabia this week with ACC fitted and just wondered as I'd been using it on the motorway.

No problem. The ACC can take you from 70 to zero at "emergency stop" rate if needed. It would be really dangerous if the brake lights didn't light in such circumstances. Enjoy the Fabia .

It's good to know but I don't intend testing it out!

Thanks again.

This is what it's me off using ACC especially at night.

I don't want to be the d**khead ahead that keeps flashing his brake lights.

But you won't be! The ACC uses idle and whatever engine braking there is before resorting to wheel braking. So as long as the guy in front of you isn't being a d**knead, neither will you be:biggrin:.

The thing about ACC (which I love) is that it only "sees" what's right in front of it. A careful driver can watch traffic several cars ahead and anticipate much better than ACC. In dense UK traffic, I tend to leave it off and drive the car myself. It's brilliant in roadworks traffic, where all you care about is the car right in front of you. The first time I came to a complete stop, then the car took off on its own again, I was astounded. I still tend to hover my foot near the brake pedal, waiting for the inevitable computer fail.

I have to say that it's something to be learned carefully.

This week is the first time I've used it in my life and initially I found it a challenge.

I've just got to grips with it today but still don't feel 100% confident with it yet.

That's exactly what I find. Driving in traffic I can anticipate and ease off whereas the ACC blindly drives on until the car in front gets in range It then slows, usually by braking.

I can hear the brakes at the rear when they are applied and it happens quite regularly in motorway traffic.

Actually the brake noise is one of the most annoying things on the car, although when I had an Octavia on loan it was even worse.
