VCDS/Obdeleven: Improving fuel range accuracy

Featured Replies

I was messing around with OBDeleven yesterday, and I found a nice little tweak to improve the accuracy of the fuel range displayed on the Maxidot display. I've always found it frustrating on all my VAG cars that they don't seem to "learn" over time how much range I can get out of a tank; each tank, it displays pretty much the same range figure, which is always quite optimistic.

The option I found is under:

Controller 17 (Dash Board)

"Driving profiled for range remaining"

Edit the value to your own calculated figure for l/100km consumption.

Mine was set to 8.2l/100km out of the factory. My 2.0 Sportline 220PS has so far achieved approximately 8.6l/100km. I edited it to this value, and immediately the range figure dropped on the maxidot. I can now be more confident that the range is representative of my actual figure!

I played with it quite a bit, and tried changing the value to silly figures like 5.0l/100km, and after a couple of minutes, I saw the range skyrocket, so I could prove it was working!

I hope someone else finds this useful. I've been keeping track of my consumption using an app, so I'm fairly confident that my figures are accurate. Interested to know if the factory figure is the same for all engines, or if they vary it for the 1.4TSI/Diesel engines etc.

according to the infotainment stats - my 220 is doing approx. 8.6L/100.

i consitently get about 850km of actual range between tank fills (using 98RON), more if i do motorway driving - goes up to about 930-950km.

and that's before the fuel indicator reaches rock bottom.

given the extra large fuel tank (i.e. 66L + more) that's being fitted in mine - the numbers above add up, or at least, r in line with each other.
