Wheel Nut Covers.

Featured Replies

Collected my 1.5tsi Edition last week and whilst washing the wheels today noticed that wheel nuts had no plastic covers . All my previous Skodas / VW's over past few years have had these and just wondered if one of you lovely Karoq owners out there could check if they have covers on their's before I go chasing dealer .  Wheels are the standard 19 inch Crater Alloys .

I would have thought the Edition would have had them for sure, my SE L has them as have all other Octavia's I have owned.

So they were not fitted at the PDI, or already stolen.  Which do you think?

Did you inspect the car and then set the tyre pressures and the TPMS after getting the car?

Have you check the Tools,  Security Socket, Tweezers etc and are they there.   Are the Nut (Bolt) covers maybe still in the boot?

Thanks Gomezz and Offski , I'll now get Dealer to send me a set .   I did check pressures Offski but as nuts are quite recessed in those wheels I didn't notice then , only today when washing them it came to light. Tools and associated bits are all present in boot but no covers ... my nuts will have to be exposed for a few days :)

Believe it or not, the covers LOOK identical to the actual wheel nuts ! I thought the same when checking mine, & only found out by checking each wheel nut with the tweezer tool that they were actually fitted - they're a perfect match for the nuts themselves, and certainly look to deceive. Suggest you double check each & every wheel nut - you may be pleasantly surprised, as I was.

^^^ Does each of your 4 wheels not have 1 security bolt that does not look like the other 4?  The one that takes a bigger Bolt (nut) cover.

Check the glovebox, they sometime stash them inside the car.

Poor effort by the dealer though. Not fitting the wheel nut caps is shoddy.

Let's hope they managed to remove the suspension transport blocks!

I misunderstood ! I thought the problem was recognising which wheel nut was the locking bolt one, hence my statement that they ( the covers ) all look the same :wall: -- Sorry !

No sign of them anywhere in car silver1011 and dealer is sending me a set - suspension transport blocks were also fortunately missing   :)

Good stuff, at least the dealer is putting things right.

Hopefully they're sending you 16 caps for the regular wheel nuts, and four oversized ones for each of the locking wheel nuts.

The caps are good for keeping salt and grit away from the little channels on the locking nut that the key slots into.

Are the little plastic tweezers in the foam insert in the boot? You'll need these to remove the caps in the event of needing to remove the alloys.

Using regular long nose pliers will scratch the caps...

Hopefully they might get it right this time    :wondering:   .... And  I'll check the boot tomorrow for tweezers - I know there is a jack / wheelbrace / locking nut key in there with the spacesaver and Canton Sub Woofer !!

Just checked ... no tweezers !!   But one of those metal hook things they use to remove the bolt covers with holes in middle as on VW's .  Perhaps my new covers will be 'Holy VW ones'  :)   If not another little job for supplying dealer .    The trick is to always expect the worst in life and that way you will never be upset and occasionally happily surprised  ;)

Look again. Very closely.

On day 1, silly me did not spot the black tweezers in the black foam in the black boot on a dark night. I thought I'd been supplied the wrong tool (hook).

Yes, as above, they are well hidden as they are stored vertically.

This isn't a Karoq, but the principle is the same...

Here is the Kodiaq which I'm hoping might be similar to the Karoq, you can just see it on the far right near the locking wheel nut key ......

Skoda have found another use for the VW cap removal key. On the Kodiaq (and presumably the Karoq?) it is used to access the front foglight bulbs and remove the front towing eye cover...

Definitely not located within the polystyrene tool holding set up or indeed anywhere else in car .   Got the hook though !!

Set of nut covers arrived from dealer today , mat grey part number 321 601 173 A Z37 . Tried fitting them and they are very very tight .  Checked part number on Superskoda site which states 1Z0071215AZ37 !!    Before I get involved in another debate with dealer could I ask a favour of one of you lovely folks ?  Can you remove one of your nut covers and post the part number on a reply please .  Nothing seems simple anymore in this new age of technology

Hi Boxerdog, don't know if you got sorted with the part numbers for the nut covers, but it's been a bit wet & windy to expose my nuts until today! Here's a couple of pics of both the locking wheel nut cover & the regular wheel nut cover. Hope this helps.

Thanks westie38 ... seems like they sent the correct ones !   Very tight fit mind you , lets hope the new tweezers can cope if I need to remove them :)

I guess they need to be tight, otherwise after they've been off and on a few times there might not be enough friction to hold them in place.

Also be careful when jet washing the wheels. If enough water is squirted on them it can get behind and inside the caps and loosen them so that they then fall off whilst driving.

  • 2 months later...

I received some exact replacements off eBay today. I just needed 1 that either fell out or got nicked. The seller sold them in fives or the full set.

Mine is the 321 601 173 B TW3. The description in the listing didn't have the B but I added a note to the seller in the order and I got the right ones.

Tried the dealer at first and they quoted a different model number at a cheap 59p a cap but they don't deliver. Didn't fancy an hour's drive just for a cap so went for eBay instead.
