Oil consumption for Octy 2014 1.4TSI 140HP engine

Featured Replies

Good Day All,

kindly need your advice about the normal oil consumption for the 1.4TSI engine

during maintenance my local dealer puts 4L of oil in the engine & then after about 4K KMs the check oil lamp lights up so i add another 0.5L then again after 2 or 3K KMs it lights up again so i add another 0.5L or oil then now after another 2K KMs it lights again

so is consuming about 5 or 5.5L of oil every 10K Kms normal or not and if not what could cause this & is there any solution?

Past 2 years, on a variable service and doing 12k miles, I've had to put between .5l and 1l in to top it up.

Only once did the light come on. Weirdly the level was fine when it did though.

Are you checking the level on the dipstick, the level sensor may be faulty or unreliable and you may be overfilling.

Warmed up engine, then stood, engine off for 3 or 4 minutes on level ground, check dipstick.

Have you checked for leaks?

Is it smoking under acceleration?

Whats the mileage and service history?

when i check the level it is in the lower quarter of the dip stick

how can i check leaks? and dealer told me there is nothing abnormal when i told him about this

no no smoking under acceleration

car is not 131800 KM exactly and serviced every 10000 Kms

but when it was new till about 80000KM the local dealer was servicing it every 7500KM and always put 4.5L of oil , now Skoda dealer changed in my country and the new dealer said the correct amount is 4L only and make the service every 10000KM since then i started getting the check oil level light.

Also the fuel consumption is very good as good as the car was totally new

without A/C the car can use easily 4.5L for every 100KM and sometimes less , with a maximum of 5L every 100KM if trafic is somewhat heavy

Using RON92 Fuel and our fuel in Egypt is not that good :(

Check what oil and grade the dealer is using.

Always check the level when you collect the car after service and complain if its not right, at the max mark.

You need to inspect under the engine for leaks.

For instance they may have damaged the drain plug and cross threaded it and so is leaking there. Another possibility is a damaged pcv valve. I don't know where this is on your engine, but  normally it plugs into the top cam cover. Sometimes mechanics can damage this or pull piping off when changing air filter or plugs and forget to put it back.

If you cannot do this yourself then  use someone who is not associated with your dealer to check your engine for leaks.

I would imagine, given the amount you're using, you would know if you had a leak, as it would be visible on the floor beneath your car.

Since you can't see any visible smoke, it'd be hard to suggest you are burning it too (you would probably smell it too.)

When I had an old VW Bora (this was a diesel though), it was known for the turbo to leak oil into the intercooler and every service, mechanics were known to poke a hole in the intercooler and drain some large amounts of oil.

Could be worth as Xman has suggested, seeking a bit of advice from a third party.

Also, you may want to start checking your oil every week/month depending on mileage. Waiting until the light comes on is a dangerous game ;)

Definitely worth checking all the under bonnet pipes are securely fitted where they should be.

@MohamadG You say the Dealer put in 4 litres,  does that mean you were charged for 4 litres or did you see it go in?

?

Did you check the oil when cold when collecting the car to see the correct oil level, then once home when at Operating Temperature to see the correct level was in.

If not it was maybe under filled at the Service, and not checked correctly.

...................

If under filled and a Warning Light for low Oil or Low Oil pressure light came on, possibly over 1 litre low, even 1.3 litres,

topping up with 0.5 litres was still too low.

Check as per the hand book at Normal Operating Temperature and be sure the oil is in Area A on the dipstick.
