Seat belts that undo themselves if you turn.

"An earlier cable tie solution and an "informal recall" were rejected by regulators."

Vw trying to hide yet again and offering a heath robinson cheap fix.

Seriously! What a fudge

As this affects Polo, Ibiza and Arona, is it possible it affects Fabia and Karoq too? Possibly some Audi models that share the same platform too?

"Given the limited circumstances in which the seatbelt can (in the test conditions) come unbuckled, and the employment of the interim fix and further still the specific warnings provided to users, there is no materially increased risk. It is on that basis that sales continued."

VW's attitude is frightening that seat buckles coming undone in whatever tests is in some way acceptable .

What do insurance companies think about this?

If someone is injured while sitting in the middle seat, with or without the warning sticker?

Are they now 4 seaters, can police pull you for this?

FFS VW. What is the permanent fix? Would a more substantial plastic-coated metal brace between the catches, limiting how far they can travel work?

They just need to be mounted such that the 2 buckle units cant go "on top" of each other.

As per the finnish diagram, its a ****  design as is...

Why am I not surprised?

Update: 27 November 2018. VW Group has issued a recall to permanently fix the seat belt fault on affected cars. A spacer will be fitted in the double buckle of the rear seat.
