My bad day

Whats the speed limit along there?

Looks like a crossing or something' date=' surely 30mph?

How do you do that much damage at 30mph?[/quote']

after looking at the video i'd say defo a 30, judging by the damage i'd say definitly came from the direction of the crossing so a dead straight 30 zone at a crossing.

"driving safely"

everyone makes a mistake and luckily for whelan he's ok and no one else was hurt. irrelivent of the specifics i think this is a lesson for all of us especially whelan in the dangers of what driving fast can do. give the lad a break and lets hope everything is ok for him.

Ouch.. thats very bad to se man... but hope that u get it running again very soon

yep, that's part of the cheshire oak shopping centre so definitely a 30 zone. I drive like grandpa round there as there's always some foolish driver pulling out/changing lanes or some idiot pedestrian steeping out from nowhere

Given the previous examples of fine driving I can't say I'm at all surprised this has happened.

Sorry , but not much sympathy at all

sorry to keep this going but just because whelan has video'd a few examples of driving imo dangerously why is he being treated differently to anyone else who has had an accident? everyone i'm sure had driven badly at one time or another or even shown off to others. whether it be recently or a long time ago i doubt very much anyone on here has a squekly clean motoring history and has never made a mistake.

Hmmm sorry to see the damage to your car. Looking at the video clip I only saw one bit that was on a public road, to be fair.

You don't say what happened in the accident, neither do you (obviously) have any footage of it. Why not post exactly what happened, then people may not judge you on unrelated video footage?

At least you're in one peace, there were no pedestrians nearby, and hopefully no other vehicles involved. Sounds like you have learnt from the experience also, which can only be good.

You know, I was thinking just the same...

i agree with the above.

glad your ok but your video footage in the past show's that, you could have killed yourself and some poor driver coming the other way.

we all want to show off and drive fast in our fantastic Fabia's but it's not worth a death !!

hope you and your car get better soon.

Totally agree too!

After seeing some of your other vids especially the one of your handbrake turning in an industrial estate it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

Hopefully you will learn from this and grow up a little before you get a new car, glad to hear nobody got hurt btw!

Regardless of the speed/stupidity/luck/bad luck whatever involved:

1. Be glad the guy is ok

2. Be glad no-one else was hurt

3. Be glad the guy is insured

Beyond that I hope a lesson was learnt, your car can be sorted out & you are ok

I have not watched the vid in fairness, but tbh not sure if I do. I have driven beyond my means in the past in a small car where I nearly lost it, wet road + mud caught me out. I parked up the car for a while after that and went for a refresher course in driving to tidy up my behaviour a bit.

Have subscribed to the IAM and will follow up on that soon :)

Gutted for you mate. You only got the wheels and bits a short time ago iirc.

Glad no one was hurt.

*RANT MODE -

FFS you do gooders, just because he has posted some footage of himself having some fun in his car, it doesn't automatically mean he always drives fast, or with copious (and with very good precision I might add) use of the hand brake.

Anyone, and I mean anyone can have an accident, thats why they are accidents.

If some of you have an unblemished driving record, great. It doesnt matter a toss to anybody but you.

Having seen all of the other videos, nowhere can I see any danger areas. The bit on the public road, was clearly speeded up for effect, and the camera, and a mate to use said camera presumably, would have warned of any oncomung danger.

If you yourself have never had some fun on an EMPTY car park/industrial estate, then that doesnt mean that everyone who does deserves, or is expected to have an accident.

Lighten up.

Some of you have a very narrow minded view on some things.

I'm looking forward to posting my video on google soon. That should give you something to have a rant about.

You have my sympathy mate, but as the details aren't too clear, I will retract my sympathy if it turns out you were being silly.

thank you to everyone.

A detailed insite:

the incident happend at 22:55 (5mins before the complex closed) i had been to macdonalds to pick up some grub for me and my girlfriend. as i drove out of the drive through the person who was in front of me slammed on the brakes for no reason an i had to brake harsh too. as we got out the drive thru he did it again?!?! this p!ssed me off. i thought i would overtake him on another bit of the car park and get infront so he cant do it again and i did so, I carried more speed around the round about than intended (i dont know the exact mph) at the same time seeing two security guards that i know by some shops I jammed on the brakes to stop and tell them to get this idiot off site only to have the rear and allready on its way out(due to turning off the round about quickly), i held some what of a controlled skid only for it to snap back the other way and make the front end of the car contact the rails.

the rails gripped the car and spun it 180 causing the rear wheel to hit the kirb and smash off taking the hub and disc brake with it, then one more 180spin so i was facing the right way again. and i came to a stop.

the car that had been braking hard went off on the first junction and i went ahead on the second. none else was involved an none really around at 22:55 on a shopping complex.

I have never been in a crash before and didnt know what to do. so i used a near by plastic trolly and put it under the car so i had a 4th wheel and pushed the car outide the complex so they could lock up @ 23:00 and i could call the AA.

I have simpathy for anyone that has been in a crash before cos now i know just what it can do to people.

Im guessing he didnt slam his brakes on as you were up his ****?

Anyhow, we not here to lay blame or whatever. Like you say it has shook you up. I had one much the same in my Pug 306, driving way to quickly for the conditions with less than perfect front tyres I ended up going headfirst into an oncomming bin lorry. My fault and no one elses, but it did slow me down.

Touche !!;)

Ouch! :( Feel sorry for you mate. Its not nice just seeing the smashed up vRS, nevermind being in the car at the time of a crash (im guessing)

Chin up

Thank you. it is upsetting. its like what you see in the movies when days later you keep having day dreams and nightmares of what happend, the same picture of you looking out the window seeing the world spinning and smashing into things helpless and scared. as it was happening i was sayin out loud 'NO NO NO NO!'...

I was not gonna post what happend on the forums for fear of being judged due to my videos. but this was an accident an not another one of my madmax productions. thought the sight of a poorly furby might make people think nextime they take a corner too quick or think 'yeh ill make that'.

Anyone' date=' and I mean anyone can have an accident, thats why they are accidents.

Actually, they've been re-named from RTA's (accidents) to RTC's (crashes) because unfortunately alot of them just aren't accidents :(

Think about it....if everyone followed all the rules all the time, there shouldn't (in a perfect world  ) be anything to cause a crash.

That said, of course I love going in a fast car doing dangerous things....but I would never try to do it myself...and I do sometimes get a bit scared when in other peoples cars because I've had many a graphic story about what can happen

If a lesson has been learnt from this I think it's a good thing. Obviously everyone likes to have fun in their cars etc but I suppose it's a case of time and place - and ability!! If you want to kill yourself/write off your car then fine, but on public roads it's not really fair on the person round the corner....

gutted to see the poor fabbie smashed up and I can imagine how jumpy you must feel now. Glad you're ok and I hope the car gets sorted

Spares or repairs springs to mind!!:D Judging by the front SWMBO thinks you won't need to invest in an FMIC!!!!

Sorry to see this happen. I've never been in an accident *touch wood* so I wouldn't know what you are feeling, but I hope you get back on track soon.

I must admit I was a little judgemental at first after seeing some of your previous videos, but these things happen.

Upsets me seeing Fabia vRS' after being in an incident. :thumbdwn:

no way mate that looks quiet bad. Sod what people say no one is perfect and ok you have some crazy vids but no one is around you on any of em, at the end of the day like it has been said you can rebuild a car but not peoples lives!!! I lost a best mate in a car crash (nothing to do with me) and he wasnt driving like a loon so just take it easy and dont rush back out, take your time mate. Hope it dont cost too much to fix by the way.

Hey Lummox! I am not surprised hitting the bin lorry slowed you down - probably made you go backwards? Sorry just couldn't resist it!

I watched Whelan's vid the other day before his crash and wondered how much longer he'd get away with it! Mind you looks like he's a talented driver and maybe the message for him is be glad he got away with this one, get a roll cage and get out on some track days (while your young enough and haven't got too many responsibilities). Keep the quickest driving for the track, you could be doing under thirty on a public road but if under hard acceleration you hit something - oil, another motor etc the repercussions are going to be as you saw in this thread. and we all know what sort of momentum you can pick up in a vRS especially a remapped one.

By the way I'm no angel - thirteen years ago I was driving along to 'red 5' a Nigel Mansell tribute song (how sad is that!) and had an accident at a set of traffic lights technically my fault but other twerp didn't help - if i hadn't had that music on....

One year later had another accident at speed in France - once again had that music on! The cd hasn't been played since....

That car got repaired - less than a couple of months later I'd put it in a ditch after ending with a tank slapper at 50mph in the wet. Think Hellfire was spot on with his comments - we've all been there and hopefully learn't. Glad your ok Whelan - dont be like me and learn the second or third time round - because you will get over this - but get out on a track because driving quick is what you love:thumbup:

now explanation one was made up and tbh i very much doubt explanation 2 for the simple reason of a couple shots of the accident totally conflict it. if you look at these 2 shots from the video the barrier is bashed away from the shopping centre so has been hit from that side of the road. either you did hit the barrier after coming off the round about going the wrong way or you hit it going towards the round about?

some one tell me if i am being totally stupid by seeing it like this and i fi am totally wrong then i apologise for being anal about this but hey, i'm an **** when i want to be :)

The 1st pic shows the direction of travel,as hes travelling towards the roundabout.

Is this a prime example of torque steer!!!!!

Are you covered Fully Comp.?

2lane of traffic either side of the barrier..
