Which petrol DSG?

Featured Replies

My Sportline is Corrida Red so it does tend to be a head turner (it's quite funny driving past a queu at a bustop) - I do get the occasional " yoofs " alongside at traffic lights wanting to race in their 1liter Vauxhall Nova but I cant't be bothered !

The 1.4 DSG is more than adequate but it is not a drivers car. As mentioned earlier it is more than ok 90% of the time. It does run out of power if you want to press on when you are at speed, say 60 mph or higher. I love mine, just chill out and you will find you are more relaxed at the end of your journey.  ACC and DSG are a fantastic combination. Air conditioned seats, rear radar make for pleasant motorway journeys. I haven't got the upgraded sound but I would get it if you can.

Thanks all for your thoughts. Perhaps subconsciously what I wanted was a reason to go for the 220, but now I'm thinking about the 280 and that might be an easier sell to SWMBO as the 4x4 arguably makes it "safer".

There's not a lot of them about though and they are dearer. Buying outright with my own money makes it a bit harder to justify.

Anyway, to those with the Sportline, regardless of engine, do you find you get a lot of unwanted attention? By which I mean yoofs wanting to race you away from the lights? Of course, you may be a yoof and want that attention but those days are behind me! I do like the subtly sporty looks, especially the alloys.

You also have the option of the 280/272 in SEL Exec or L&K trim levels remember :inlove:

4x4 Safer?

Don't forget that 4x4 is generally for moving forwards, stopping is braking and all Superbs have 4x4 brakes.

Ha! Race a Škoda? You will have to be the one revving your engine at the lights to encourage that! I've got a red one and no one has looked at me twice. Well, except the guy that was passing when I was washing my car and asked, "Is that an Audi?"

And, if you're worried about the cost of stretching to the 280, just get the 220. Plenty of power. Plenty. I broke away the fronts under acceleration from a standing start a couple of times after I bought it. Once when I was turning (still my demo ride), once when it was wet. Since then, I have installed a DTUK PedalBox and have much better control of the throttle. I've not had the front break away since, and can still get the thing to move smartly when I have to. The PedalBox costs a lot less than the move up to a 280.

Of course, IMHO.

Good point, think I prefer the Alcantara seats to the leather though and recent SE Ls and all the L&Ks have leather.

Have you had any issues with getting insurance after fitting the pedal box?

Meet the ostrich...

I'd strongly recommend the 2.0TSi 220ps -- except that it's now been discontinued, and the replacement is likely to be only 184ps :-(

I did have stares from 2 blokes in a 4 series BMW at a car park in my white sportline. The black contrasting trim probably makes it look sportier.

280version is a great sleeper car.
