Sat Nav Update Failure - SD Card Appears to be corrupted now.

Featured Replies

Hmmm - tried to apply the latest update to my SD Card just before Christmas using the same Hardware and Procedure that I have always used and it seems to have corrupted the card.

It came up with an obscure write error when trying to update the card and now it just seems to keep giving disk errors.

I can't even run a physical format on the card using the official SD Card Association Utility which is designed to cope with secure cards.

Not quite sure how I can recover it.

Contemplating running up a Unix host to see if that gets me anywhere.

Any ideas - I've tried 3 different SD card readers, the one that always worked OK until this time round is the one built into my Dell Laptop.

Hmm can you write any file to the card Like a blank .txt file?

Is the card unlocked with the little slider on the side?

Small files appear to be OK - if you then attempt to copy a backup of the card from before I tried the update it falls over about 1% into the copy with various errors - Semaphore Timeouts,  Device I/O errors.

After which the SD card becomes un-responsive - you can't see the contents in Explorer.

I've tried Disabling the AV software just in case that is suddenly causing an issue.

I've always used the normal format program that comes with windows

Quick Update.

Well it gets even stranger - I have successfully carried out a full format and copy of the updated files using an older Windows 10 Dell that I have for testing.

So I am hoping that the card will read OK in the car later (I walked in today) when I get home.

Really odd as I have used my daily Dell Laptop (Latitude E6330) running Windows 10 to apply the last two updates.

Fingers crossed that it will work OK later.

I bought an SD Card on here recently, but my Amundsen says it doesn't have valid data on it.  It came from a younger car (2016) than mine (2015), so I'm guessing it's not backward compatible.  You're welcome to try it if you get stuck.

Are you using the downloader program that Skoda make you download to download the update? I found it was useless when I updated my maps recently, gave strange errors then got stuck on the unpacking phase for hours. I gave up and Unzipped the file myself in a few minutes and manually copied the contents to the SD card without issue.

I did initially use the full downloader, then tried unzipping and copying.

I'm pleased to say that I managed to resurrect the card in the older Dell and I've just tested it OK in the car.

So a painful process but I have now managed to update my Maps.

I always copy my SD card to the pc, then format it,  then copy the new downloaded program to it, done that 3 times now without a hitch. I have all the old versions  saved on my , usb hard drive. I was going to use another sd card but stuck with the original. TBH, haven't noticed any difference with any version, still have garages etc with totally wrong info and some even closed down years ago.
