rear left light broken on dashboard 25% of the times I start the car

Featured Replies

and stays error until i switch off car again. alternatively, the dashboard light has come on during the middle of a journey but has never gone off during.

the other 75% of time no error comes up and I assume the lightbulb is working.

is all that's needed to rejiggle the wires and perhaps use masking tape to stick something in place? or what?

Change the bulb, it's faulty...….

Don’t assume based on what I have been advised on my Octy the wiring may need reviewing/crimping

The general opinion around here is that the bulb out warning system is sensitive enough to throw intermittent warnings for bulbs that are on the way out. It's only a few quid for a new bulb anyway.

Might be worth swapping with the bulb on the other side, and see if the fault follows the bulb or not? At least then you know if it's bulb-related or potentially wiring-related.

It seems to trigger more during colder (or moist) periods. At some point it kept telling me the foglight bulbs were gone about every third start. Removed the bulbs, reseated them. And they're still going after more than than a year later. I've probably had dozens of bulb notices, but only one or two bulbs blown.

If the bulbs are easy to reach, check them out. If they're cheap, also replace them while you're at it. Check contact points. Different bulbs have different mounting mechanisms. Sometimes the bulb is fine, but the socket needs a check.

Correct me if I'm wrong but once the system thinks an indicator bulb is out, it refuses to try to use it? I remember something like that very vaguely. Bulb related issues have been a great source of annoyance.

I had the same problem not long after I bought my car over six years ago. New lamps (bulbs) did not resolve it. A new complete lamp cluster board, all under warranty including the lamps did.

Ironically my problem only occurred on hot days, so my point to the dealer after trying new lamp and testing the lamps was that the electrical connections on the board, dry type solder joints were moving in the heat.

My first Superb Mk2 Twindoor did this all the time, same side as well. Was one of the first delivered back in September 2008.

It was only ever that side, and fitting a new bulb each time always sorted the problem for a while.

At the time, I did suspect a dodgy electrical connection somewhere in the cluster. I reported it to the dealer multiple times, but all they ever did was replace the bulb.

My current Combi doesn't suffer from these problems. Perhaps the design is improved in the Estate rear cluster?
