Am I unique, or just odd??

Featured Replies

We have two identical Yetis, both Petrol blue 66 plate L&K diesels one manual and one auto.

It was the colour we really wanted, an auto was preferred but none were around apart from the manual when we purchased it 3 months ago. Step forward two months and we now have an Auto with 7k miles on it.

Which do I prefer? DSG is lazy driving. The manual feels a bit nippier and is slightly more economical but I often stall the car in second...

150ps , cracking cars. We sold a discovery sport hse to buy the Yeti... much better cars than JLR

Knock £3k off the price and I'll have it. :)

You “stall” a diesel !?

Stalls quite easily, coming down from 3rd to 2nd at slow speed. Stop start sometimes works to start it again sometimes doesn’t.

I think VAG have mullered their diesels in the drive for emissions reductions.  My old 1.9 PD fabia had better low end torque.  My betting is that if I were willing to pay the no doubt substantial insurance hike to get it remapped I could get better torque and power at the expense of poorer emissions figures.

It certainly does - and when it doesn't auto re-start on dipping the clutch it is not pleasant when you are in certain traffic conditions.

My insurance hike for a Shark stage 1 was under £20.

OK I am well past my twenties ...but still under 10%

My insurance hike for a Shark stage 1 and bigger brakes was £55 cheaper  than the previous year. I changed to LV from RAC. To be fair LV are £20 less than that without the remap.

Oh and the car is so much more drivable.

Totally agreed, it affects all manufacturers as emissions take priority over performance.  Also local government plans to ban some older diesels from town centres in the future aren't helping residual values either.

Is that a remap or tuning box?

Its a remap with the added option that I have an obd device that allows me to remove the remap and replace the original map if it needs to go to a dealers.

SharkHQ have ceased  to be  but  their remaps are available through their old dealer network.

Yes, I've stalled the Yeti a handful of times having never stalled all my previous diesel cars.

The characteristics of diesels have certainly changed. My first was a VW Vento 1.9 and you could pull away and change up through all 5 gears without touching the throttle! I wouldn't even attempt that in just the lower gears in a recent diesel.
