Pre season testing showed that Ferrari were way ahead of Mercedes

Three races into the season and three 1-2's for Mercedes.

Two of the four Renault engine cars managed to finish today, but both were lapped.

Ricardo did very well to keep all the "other" mid and tail end cars behind and Perez seem to be driving very well.

Unlucky Mclarens both getting hit by Kyvat.   Max showing himself to be the class act with what equipment he has.

F1 pretty dull as usual, at least we have WSB and MotoGP to look forward later today and BSB back next week at Silverstone !!

Leclerc 3 seconds behind Bottas and told to let Vettel through. Was Vettel hounding Bottas or get within 3 seconds of him? Ferrari cost themselves 2 points by sacrificing Leclerc and still find themselves behind Max in the standings after this strategic ****-up.

He was very quiet during the race over the radio. Think he was still looking for his favourite toys after throwing them from the motorhome following Q3.:blush

If he'd spent more time driving and less running his mouth he might have just made it!

At least this year he hasn't blamed the engine partner yet.

Last year you just know it would have been Renault's fault he missed his Q3 lap.

Gasly to start from pit lane after driver and Red Bull team miss Weighbridge instruction, oops.

Renault right messed up their set up, but losing loads in the corners........

(Slow these F1 cars and speed trap not anywhere near the peak speed place ie should show about 330 kph at least).

I think they had the engines turned down in that session... see below for P3 speeds

No Renault's in the top 10 in P3, but 3 Hondas :o

Vettel and Verstappen used massive tows to get anywhere close to Leclerc.

Bottas slowest of all on the straight. Too much downforce again at Mercedes, like Bahrain?

Ferrari seem to get the setup right out of the box whilst everyone else floundering.

Let us see if teams finally get organised for drafting down the straights.

Perez P5. in Q3. In a Racing Point. (sad name that - but the owners of Brabham and Lola F1 names told them to take a hike over the winter.)

Given that Ocon was generally faster in qually than Perez, Racing Point should dump Lance Stroll - discuss?

1 of the cars that beat Stroll in Q1 was cheating so I may have been slightly too harsh on him.

Which car?  The fastest one. Red Bull and Gasly summoned to the stewards yet again.

So on Friday they skipped the weighbridge (so may have been underweight during the session), and on Saturday they and Honda broke the maximum fuel flow regulation whilst posting the quickest time in Q1.

Are RBR making a lot of mistakes at the moment or just getting caught more often?

And as usual Max had a whinge about qualifying not being fair. To whit "Tows are now deciding pole fights" he said.

So go and get a tow then! RBR could easily have sent Gasly around in front of him but chose not to.

Riccardo has been poor this season due to his bad driving .

McLaren have done pretty well with the Renault power unit.

God F1 is dull though.  Thought it could not get any duller than the last season but clearly I was wrong.  Thankfully lots of other motorsports around.

That is true, but the Renault is way off of the pace.

Vettel reckons it's boring that Mercedes keep on winning and the last four years have been boring as well.

The four years when Red Bull won weren't that exciting either.

Almost as dull as your beloved WSB with the same champion year in year out, and now a new rider/bike combo winning 11 straight races. More predictable than F1?

Nor the 5 years Ferrari cleaned up from 2000 onwards.

Quite so though Jonny Rea and Alvaro Bautista were/are winning whilst their team mates are not so its not just the bike is good.

F1 is 90% car 10% driver (though driver must be good of course)

WSB is more like 75% bike 25% rider I reckon.

Sykes race pace was rarely as good as Jonny though Sykes was/is a great qualify man.

My neighbour form up just up the road here is, Chas Davies,  is starting to get more out of the Ducati Panagli v4.

Maybe with F1, as with most racing classes, it seems to help if one is one small height side of the human scale, squat is fairly OK though.

Hulkenburg is one of the few 6 footers with most of the "racers" around the 5'9" I would reckon (they seem to over state sometimes I find).

With F1 the animals often go in two by two but much  less often in bikes and most other forms of motorsport
