I am starting episode 6 right now. The filming caught more of the speed and danger than normal tv production

Gary Anderson in Autosport says it's the 4th quickest car but they can't make it quick in the races on this year's tyres

Er, the "quickest car" is the one that completes race distances in the shortest ET, not the one that's fastest through a speed trap.

He bases his judgement on average fastest lap time from the last 4 events, so normally the best Q2 or Q3 lap time, which is the quickest lap the car did all weekend. I was surprised the Haas is quantifyably the 4th fastest car but Gary has designed GP winning F1 cars, so who am I to argue with him.

Thus proving that you can prove pretty much anything by selective use of statistics. The fourth fastest car is the constructor who's 4th in the championship!

Which is who? I don't know. Apart from Mercedes and Ferrari it's just 8 teams of losers making up the numbers in the field these days.

Which is quite bad. Not so long ago the first seven races in a F1 season were all won by different drivers. 2012 it was.

Well, neither do I but that was not the point. If you take best lap time (Q2 and Q3) you'll get one result for "fastest team", if you take "quickest through speed trap" you'll get another, but Constructors' Points are the only value that pays money, or even might be remembered in 4 or 5 years time.

Oh and "Merc, Ferrari and Max Vercrashen" shirley?

"Red Bull's Horner confident of keeping Verstappen in F1 beyond 2019" - autosport.com

Why is he confident?

Is there not a clear vacancy at Mercedes for 2020? No-one actually has a contract there for next year apart from Hamilton.

It sounds like RBR are already worried he's going to break his contract and go.

Rumours suggest Toto has been calling both Max and Jos lately.

Looking ahead into my usually accurate crystal ball I see Max either replacing Vettel at Ferrari or Hamilton at Mercedes but not joining them as neither would enjoy his company as a team mate.

So he could replace Vettel for 2020 then...

Not sure how long Seb has left on his Ferrari contract but he clearly is not the answer or even the future for the Prancing Horse. Even Stevie Wonder could see that, without his crystal balls.B)

Slight mishap for Bottas in FP3 and Lewis looking dominant on the soft tyres 0.5 second ahead of the Ferrari's. Qualifying should give Merc another 1-2 on the grid. We will see at 2pm. Williams and Racing Point to lose both cars in Q1?

Well, for sure Lance Stroll will demonstrate that he is a waste of a seat again.

Yeah agree must be difficult being the son of a billionaire. Didn't see Nico trip through the gravel in Q1 or Bottas unbelieveable pole lap even though lots of gravel between turns 12 and 13 making it tricky on final runs. Ferrari miles off the pace with their new upgraded engine.:D

That's 9 consecutive Q1 exits for Lance. Funny - in the interviews he makes excuses like a real F1 driver :)

Like Seb, for instance, who after qualifying a ridiculous 0.866 off pole said they had gone with a "Daring" setup which he expected to be better in the race.

Right. We'll see how that goes.

Further to my last post taking it out of Ferrari, I haven't heard Horner + Marko crowing about Honda's progress much lately either.

Even with likely the absolute fastest driver on the grid pedaling it, and one of the best chassis, Honda today are 0.951 seconds off pole.

Absolutely hopeless in their 4th season back.

Will Max put up with this for next year? Or will he do like Senna and just sign for a faster team and let the lawyers sort it out?

Well, at least Christmut have realised that they have actually run totally out of engine excuses now!.

Perhaps Mr.Horner needs more than a bit of Ginger Spice in his life.:tongueout:

Those massive time gaps behind Mercedes are from the 2 works teams that have already introduced engine upgrades earlier than scheduled whilst Merc haven't. How they must be hoping the Spec 2 Merc due in Canada isn't a lot faster still.

Bet Red Bull and Ferrari hope the upgraded Merc in Canada is more unreliable than the current bullet proof motor. Any guess who will secure fastest lap? Going for the man of the moment Bottas.:blush

One of the Ferraris or RBRs that's having a crap race will stick reds on and steal the extra point, that seems to be the norm.

Do you think Christmut ( and Renault ) have noticed that this time last year at Barcelona, RedBull - Renault were only 0.643 off pole.

That's progress I guess.

To be fair to Honda Bottas's new lap record 1:154 was quite a lot faster than last years time so shows Mercs progress much better than their rivals, who must be scratching their collective heads in disbelief.:wall: 2018 Pole time 1:16173.
