Renault qualify P4!!

2 big names nowhere!!!

Exciting that.

Finally tyres provided that don not just work for Mercedes and Ferrari and a circuit that really test driver and car, more circuit like Canada, fantastic track and country.

Sainz loses 3 place for Impeding but may get one back if Magnussen has to take a gearbox.  Hoping for a non-boring race.

Same compound tyres as the last race to be fair to Pirelli but any circuit with really long straights favours Ferrari - Charles should have had pole at Baku too. They've done the best job on the engine by far. Genuinely shocked by the pace of the latest Renault ( which has been running reduced power since Bahrain ) Well done Daniel R. Shame we didn't see his lap.

FFS. The stewards!

Incredibly rubbish cheapo trophies again.

A bit harsh on Vettel, but  if it had been the other way around Vettel would have been straight onto the radio complaining.

Ferrari should be fast in Canada with 2 long straights so no excuses regarding qualifying. Let us see if they mess it up again.

Posted on Friday seems my prediction came true with Vettel's off and subsequent penalty for returning unsafely back onto the track forcing Lewis to avoid a collision with the Ferrari. Perhaps the Red Team should rebrand themselves as Team Own Goal.

How much longer has Ghastly got with performance as poor as that compared Max's stellar performance with the Honda engined cars.

Both Renaults ahead on Gasly must burn Red Bull.

Yeah Renault upto 5th in the Constructors and only a couple of points behind McLaren. Let's hope Lando and his barbecue rear brakes are a one off.:tongueout:

Kudos to Stroll for actually getting a result after a good drive. He seems to do better at low downforce venues like Baku, Monza and Montreal. Just Like Ferrari.

Like Lewis kept reminding everyone the low downforce Ferrari ran was giving them 0.4 second advantage in sector 3 which helped them secure pole by 0.2 seconds but made them slower than Mercedes round every corner on the track and probably explained Seb's difficulty on worn tyres staying within track limits but he certainly turned right forcing Lewis to brake to avoid a collision which is against the rules and he knows what he did just like Schumacher always knew what he was doing when attemting to stay in front under any circumstances. Coulthard's reaction baffled me as a 13 time Grands Prix winner but important to remember he never had the ability or the balls to stand up to the team principal (why he was never World Champion) when he was racing and accepted his position as number 2 driver and take the money.

It wasnt Vettels obvious right hand lock that was penalised. That was actually judged as correcting the slide as he came off the grass. Stupid decision by the stewards regardless. Just like the 5 second penalty for Max in Monaco was stupid. Or the 2008 one where Hamilton was robbed of the Spa win for cutting the chicane - Kimi ran him off the road and got given the win.

Didn't watch C4 yesterday but Brundle, Button and the Sky gang all thought the decision crass and wrong.

Why single out DC for abuse? #22 on the all time GP winners list.

Well having done plenty of track days all over the country if someone goes off in front of me I wouldn't expect them to come back onto the track and IMMEDIATELY take the racing line because that's how accidents happen and marshalls take a very dim view of anyone driving like that trust me having being a Donington Marshall for 10 years in the past.

Lol.

Just hope the Canada qualifying and race event of mixed up grid and some overtaking continues through some of the next races, tyres seemed to be the key to it though Renault seem to finally getting their  sh*te together.

Who would replace Ghastly then ?

Easy give Kimi a bigger incentive than the PR stuff with Alfa. He would love to keep Max honest.

Lol.

Again.

Max would massacre him. And anyone else who might take the job.

Kimi got blown away by Massa as long ago as 2008. He's certainly not that quick anymore.

Going back to Pirro Chief Steward's decision (remember we are talking about 5 times Le Mans winner and multiple DTM winner here) a modern F1 car has loads of sensors and very accurate telemetry onboard recording lots of data such as speed, acceleration and braking and Mercedes merely had to provide the stewards with an overlay from Lewis's car for the lap before and the lap of the incident with Seb going off. It will have been very clear to Pirro (as an ex racing driver) how much Lewis had to brake and how much speed he had to scrub off to avoid a collision. Seb can argue until he is blue in the face but data does not lie and even the amount of time Lewis lost on the lap of the incident compared to his previous lap will be very clear. Seb's comment about even a blind man could see what happened when he went off was adrenaline and bravado talking and not someone looking at his team mates telemetry during qualifying to seek an advantage.

So apart from DC and Seb Vettel, which other drivers would you like to diss today?

The only F1 driver I've heard of so far who agrees with the decision is Jolyon Palmer, someone whose F1 career was even less notable than Pirro's.

I can only assume that the telemetry from Vettel's car must have shown something to sway the stewards. Perhaps he had the pedal to the metal as soon as he came off of the grass. Ferrari are to appeal against the penalty.

Former World Champion agrees with the penalty which is about safety. Agree with his views on Vettel's behaviour and response to his mistake.

So winning the 24hours of Le Man is easy is it?. I have been in the passenger seat on quick laps with Michael Schumacher and Rickard Rydell around Silverstone GP and Brands Hatch Indy circuits and my Dad is a retired F1 engineer so what do I know.

Well, the less said by DC the better; he's the guy who thought that slowing down on the racing line in heavy rain was a clever idea!

So now you're on Pirro's side, having been anti the decision up to now?

I've passengered at 600mph and 7G at ultra low level, but I certainly couldn't fly it safely solo.

I would hazard to suggest that all the F1 drivers mentioned by us above are far more qualified to comment on the incident than any of us commentators here, even though it is likely we have areas of expertise elsewhere that would surpass theirs.

When 1 of us has won 13 GP's or even LeMans, maybe we'll understand DC or Pirros point of view.

Must have been used to the old A74.

That was murder in the wet.
