I was under the impression wipers

In Edition were automatic rain sensing? If they are how do you activate them? Thanks

Keep the stalk on INT position, thats all...

If the car has got rain sensor

From the owners manual....

Leave it in the INT position on my SE Tech and works pretty well.

Since when did auto wipers ever wipe when you needed them to wipe or stop when you needed them to stop or go at the speed you needed them to go - without continually flicking the little “Interval” switch on the stalk, or flicking the stalk up, down and and around all the time.

It’s just a Pretend function :)

Sorry, I disagree totally. I leave mine on INT all the time and they wipe pretty much exactly when I want them to, and I rarely need to fiddle with the interval switch. I have also found in certain situations (such as an adjacent vehicle going through a puddle) they react quicker than I can to a sudden deluge of water.

I guess it really depends on what your personal feelings are about how much water is on your screen and when you want it wiped off.

Having a difference of opinion is fine.

I like to turn my wipers off completely at the end of the day, especially on cold nights to avoid the wipers trying to start up in the morning when the blades might be frozen to the screen. When frost is a certainty I might even park the blades and lift them clear of the screen.

So do I, but I also very much like the auto setting.

I leave them off. When it starts raining I move the stalk up a notch (to Auto) and leave them there until the end of the journey, where I move the stalk back to 'off'.

I never leave in on auto/into when parking.

I'm not sure if auto would trigger when wipers are frozen. That could burn the motor or break mechanism. It is also stated in Owner's manual, but unclear if there is some 'auto' protection for that. In manual mode there is none. So it is owners responsibility to think and care.

As I understand it, in ‘auto’ mode the wipers won’t start to work until you drive off and reach a predetermined minimum speed, frozen or not.

It's always good practice to turn off all electrical load, before turning off the engine (Climatronic, infotainment, headlights, wipers etc.).

Not particularly convenient but a few button presses can often future prevent issues.

This is true! I can see no argument for taking the wipers out of auto for fear of them starting on their own, because they never will.

I find this feature more annoying than anything because you have to manually clear the windscreen after being parked, and then switch them back to auto

I'll add the same is not true of wife's Toyota.....something I'm reminded of each time I pour warm water over the screen to de-ice!

Mine will start before car moves in auto. Yeti did it too - also rear wiper can activate when you select reverse.

I take it you are joking when you mention pouring warm water on a frozen windscreen :shake:

Nope, used the same tried and tested method for almost 50 years on every car I've had, beats 'de-icer', never been a problem.

I can recommend the heated windscreen.....

You can turn rear wipe of in settings so they don't come on when selecting reverse

I keep mine on int all the time, They never come on when parked or deicing. When you stop at lights they stop working until you set off again

Whilst the majority of the screen might be ice free and therefore clear, allowing you to start your journey, there is a possibility the wiper blades are still frozen to the glass.

What we haven't yet been able to determine is if the wipers, if left in Auto, will turn on by themselves in the morning without touching the wiper controls.

If left n the auto position, they do turn again on in the morning subject to a minimum speed which I think is about 10mph. After the initial trigger, they operate at any speed when appropriate.  I think they operate when the car is stationary in traffic too.  After the car has been parked in the rain, you need to manually switch them on to clear the screen of water.  I usually push the lever up to constant and then back again.  The automatic rear wiper only comes on when the front wipers are active and the car is put in reverse so they don't come on when the front wiper lever is left in the auto position unless the front wipers are working.

I really like the auto wipers.  I first came across them in a Vauxhall Corsa where they came as standard and specified them in my next car (SEAT).  Really useful for light rain where they automatically deal with varying intensity of the rain. I rarely need to adjust the sensitivity control on top of the stalk.

No only if you move. I de-ice my wipers as well as the screen then use scraper to release them if they are stuck
