What are dfg regens?

DPF - Diesel Particulate Filter - filters out "soot" from exhaust and has to burn it off at regular intervals - regens. Eventually the DPF fills up so much that it can't be burned off. Probably take about 150,000 miles to get to that though.

One more thing to consider when buying a diesel.

  • If going for a dsg I would go for 2.0tdi as the 6 speed dsg is more reliable that the dry 7 speed dsg on the 1.6

  • Had a 2010 1.6tdi manual. 105bhp 5 speed. I believe the year your looking at is 110hp and 6 speed, I may stand corrected.   It averaged 47mpg over 30k odd. It was a fine cruiser but as you'v

  • I've had my 64-plate 2.0TDI manual for nearly a year now and am averaging just over 52mpg.  My daily commute is a 35 mile round trip but in lots of traffic, stop start etc. I did a run from Essex

What clutch issues?

How much did it cost you?

slave or master cylinder (the one in the actual clutch assembly) went bad so had to have new cylinder and clutch - cost £1,000 at a main dealer.

It was only 30k, but 5 years old. It happened the week after my 6 month warranty had run out. **** happens :notme:. Price you pay for buying used. Never really know what you are getting, or how previous owner has treated the car. But it can happen to anyone I guess, whether new or used. At least new is under warranty.

The clutch won't be a problem on the 6-speed wet clutch DSG. vRSWitter has a manual don't you?

Or there is a very small chance to be a more expensive problem due to dual-clutch DSG........

I have calculated DPF will be full by 180-200k miles according to my data. I have 31g oil ash residue, full is 80g, this is residue from DPF regeneration, essentially it is how much life the DPF have left. My car has done 83k miles, 31g out of 80g full. So if I sell it by 150-160k, DPF should not show up as a problem.

/off topic:

People say £5000 for electric car battery replacement is expensive. But after 10 years, you'd have spent ~£200 *10 in servicing, £500 *2 timing belt change, £190 * 4 DSG oil change and £1000+ for DPF replacement => ~£4000. There's also possible EGR, DMF, clutch, gearbox problems by that age and mileage just on the powertrain.  At same age without need to look after the drivetrain (no oil change, no belt, no complex gearbox, no filters), an EV will still run, only with less range.
