Vehicle transportation

Featured Replies

I wonder if any  members have any experience of having a car transported from one area of the country to another.

I have found a vehicle I like, trouble is it’s 200 + miles from my home. I was hoping someone on the forum may have some idea of the cost involved.

many thanks.

Drive it home is what I’d be doing.

Likewise, unless it's in one of the very few places that's a complete PITA to get to from Bolton.

A mate of mine did it a couple of years ago, he got a firm to move it and they charged about £350 if my memory serves. I'm with Ryeman though, day off work and a nice 200 miler to get used to my new car. Lovely.

I bought my vehicle via a broker and drove from Glasgow down to Lincoln (277 miles) to collect it. My wife and I turned it into a wee road trip, with the added bonus it gave us time to really get to know the car on our trip back up.

I would have no hesitation in doing it again, even if I was to use a bus or train to get there.

Take the day off and drive it home, particularly if there's a nice scenic route or good driving route along the way.

This is pretty much what I did when I picked up my Superb. Flight to Manchester, train to Derby, taxi to dealer. Drove straight across from Derby to Dolgellau then up the A470 through Snowdonia National Park to Betws-y-Coed where I stayed overnight before heading to Holyhead for the ferry the following morning. Fantastic drive and with no time pressure trying to make a ferry (I made that mistake the first time I brought in a car from England) I could really enjoy it.

@chimaera be shagged by customs next time you do it ;) :D

I know, *sigh*

Friends have bought cars at long distances. They flew/train down and drove back.

I think one mate managed to get his train ticket as part of the deal.

Where abouts is this car located?

Think I paid about £275 for the Swift to be shipped from Lurgan in Northern Ireland to the mainland...
