Yes, you need a card with v9 maps on it, and insert it .

The version supplied by the main dealer doesn’t show a version number anywhere. It only shows CW 45/2018.

Having spoken to the dealer again, they are not aware (so they claim) of version numbers such as v9, v10 etc.

Can someone please let me know the part number of v9 so I can get back to the dealer.

i understand it will be CW followed by a 2 digit number which indicates the week it was made and then followed by a 4 digit number indicating the year it was made.

Thanks

I have just looked at my latest it says Volkswagen

western Europa

v9

there are string of numbers and letters down one side but that’s all.

as I have said before you need to check the vehicle software version. O4 will work with v9 but to get the latest v10 the software needs to be 05 and my Skoda dealer  gives me a blank look and says it up to date but the company who sells the card is adamant that v10 will be problematic on the 04 software.

I’m having no luck, help or support from the main dealer with this.

It appears that I have v11 if I have looked in the correct place. Can somebody give me some guidance where I go from here.

Attached are screenshots of the version numbers etc from the screen on my radio.

Skoda have been involved right from the start. They claim that they are not aware of an6 issues with satnav upgrades and yo7 can’t always believe what you read online!

The dealer isn’t aware of version numbers, v9 for example but only CW 45/2018. They don’t appear to be able to cross reference anything.

Does that surprise you???

Show them the pictures you have here and ask them where it says CW 45/18. Then tell them that the Navigation data version on the maps you've bought from them is  (according to the system details) 0073. The navigation data version for V9 maps is 0069.

Ultimately I think they're just going to bury their heads in the sand on this one and keep on claiming they know nothing. I guess you're going to have to provide a V9 maps copy for yourself. Or you can send me the unit and I'll downgrade the unit for you for free. However, I'll need to retrieve the security code which costs a tenner (unless you already have it), you'll need to join Briskoda Freedom membership which costs £12 for a year, and you'll need to cover postage here and back. Overall, it'd be cheaper to buy a card off Ebay I reckon.

Reading through this long thread on another (GPS) forum shows that there is a definite problem with V10 & V11 Map updates to the RNS315 units with certain versions of firmware in the UK. It apparently causes a random restart every few minutes and is thought to occur when the system receives traffic information updates. Downgrading the map data to V9 fixes the problem. According to posts in that thread 'VW tech' are aware of the problem?

Yeti is now booked in with main dealer for early June. They need it for a couple of days to run tests etc to see what is causing the issue! Despite advising them that v9 is a stable version etc, they still claim not to know anything about this.

  • 2 weeks later...

Main dealer has had my Yeti for 24 hours and has updated the radio software from 0410 to 0417.

The satnav software is still v11 and I haven’t had any issues at all with the radio resetting.

Fingers crossed this has fixed it.

If it has fixed it then it's the first time I've known it. As you say, fingers crossed.

I think I spoke to soon. Just been out and it has reset again. Doesn’t do it as much though.

As the dealer has updated the radio software itself, would this still need to go back to V9 for the satnav software to cure it once and for all?

Are you getting the multiple speed limits on the screen on 60 mph roads where it puts a 50mph over the top if you have the directions box open, or one above the other if you close that view box?

I had not come across it before until we went to Norfolk last weekend, when it was showing most of the time.

I'm getting the multiple speed limits now, no ideas why.

Having thought about this it is displaying the national speed limit for that road at say 70, yet as a dual c'way lorries and vans are restricted to 60, and when view is up the 60 overlays the 70.

Similarly for single carriageway roads the car is limited to 60, and vans etc 50, which covers the 60.

I suspect there is supposed to be a selection available in the menu to select what type of vehicle you drive, but as this is missing both speed limits are displayed.

On a motorway both are limited to 70 so no clash, and when there is say a 50 limit or a 40 or 30, all vehicles are restricted and this is what is displayed.

They are aware of that and have rollback versions at bottom of page named " Previous version .................." to choose from.

Well Ken, that was a good think you had, makes perfect sense to me. One less thing for me to wonder about.

Thanks to Urrell too!

Trying to get a new maps update to my RNS 315 in my Rapid (2015) - I have V7 and as I can see, reading this thread, V9 would be the go for option. Via dealer the update is just ridiculous as to the price - I don't understand why this service is not free of charge via online self-service like other models. Anyway, price-tag over £200 and was told that it has to be done by a specialist (meaning dealer) and that there is no other way to do it - and that buying the SD card would not work.

I can't see any reason why would Rapid be any different as long as it's RNS 315 sat nav, same as in other models?

Just want to ask if anyone can confirm my logic is correct - not quite sure whether some extra security measure was installed into Rapid's sat navs...not likely but possible.

Need an update as V7 is not very reliable in terms of too many road changes to date - way too often my Satnav shows I am driving off road when I drive using a common sense or knowing that area. Middle Europe is actually the worst.

I was looking on eBay and on  LatestSatNav - where the prices are between £25 and £35, almost 90% lower than asking authorized trained specialist.

Thank you

Only the MIB headunits are able to get free map updates. Older headunits such as the RNS-310, RNS-315 and RNS-510 do not and never did get updates for free. It was always a paid for service. The reasoning is probably due to the licencing agreements made when the headunits were being designed.

Anyway, you're right that the RNS-315 update is done from an SD card. No need for any specialists to be involved, anyone can put the SD card in and it'll begin the map update :)

Genuine RNS-315 updates are expensive and they are one use only so you can't use one card to update multiple headunits. The cheaper cards are pirated/copied versions and if produced correctly, should be identical.

Oh thank you for confirming this :) Happy dyas!

I will get the SD card from LatestSatNav as I have seen some positive comments on this thread.

That said, I found another site satnavishop.co.uk which to me looks like an exact copy of  LatestSatNav website - somewhat fishy.

So really just warning if anyone will read this thread with the other web on their mind to use.
