egr valve - coolant loss

Featured Replies

Morning all. popped by the garage I normally use bout the very strange coolant leak. Had the system checked with the uv light. No leaks from any where includeing the head gasket.  They  did suggest it might leak from the egr valve. any one know the sysptoms for a leaking egr valve?

im doing anything up to 1200 miles a week. Not sure if that's not helping with the coolant loss!

How did they check the head gasket with a UV light ? There might not be an external leak, but the head gasket could leak internally.

Done the pressure check

On my previous MK2 Octavia tdi, it started to use coolant.  VAG specialist I use somehow checked the egr. It was eliminated as being ok and they then replaced the head gasket which cured the problem. I don’t know what exactly they did, but I believe with a bit of dismantling it can be checked. Obviously the mk3 could be different, worth taking it somewhere that knows these engines.

yep. The garage I use are good!

You can check cooler when EGR is removed. It should be dry inside cooler if there is any dampness then it is leaking
