Is Kamiq the new Yeti?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm sure hydrogen power will eventually be seriously considered after all we have oceans of the stuff lapping all around our coast ready for a company to dip a pipe in and convert it; it even falling from the sky in large amounts as I type. I believe hydrogen has a lower calorific value than either diesel or petrol but with a national top speed of 70 mph who needs a car that accelerates to this in a couple of seconds; speed limiters are coming in which to me seems like a giant step forward because I'm sick of road humps; traffic calming; speed cameras and roadside signs which light up telling me to slow down whilst I'm driving at 30 mph in a 40 mph area due to traffic conditions. Worse still are the tailgaters who try to push us along the road because we adhere to the speed limit. Perhaps someone should inform the PM what H2O is?  Bron and I got around OK 40 years ago in a Citroen 2CV. Still these days cars are no longer transport they are status symbols so it's a case of my car is better than your car. How many friends of the earth live up a tree or in a cave and don't own a car?

I've just been looking at the top end Renegades and over £1,000 per year road tax brings tears to my eyes; does our PM cycle to work.

Thanks Skoffski for the 2019 Renegade review video; I watched this yesterday and it's pretty impressive. I've also been browsing the Kia Soul you mention but not the electric version; running costs seem rather high compared to our Yeti although new prices start low for the basic model.

With our bad luck it would be possible Jeep would drop the Renegade if we bought one just like Skoda dropped the Yeti now we've got a Yeti. I fancied a Toyota pickup but it's just not suitable for us although these Toyota pickups are virtually indestructible. We are now seeing lots more Dacia Dusters locally.

Just rambling on.

Kind regards, Colin.

As I mentioned in another thread I'm keeping mine (month younger than yours Colin) and will also fit the Michelins when needed. Why didn't Skoda listen to owners, professional reviewers and Clarkson,

There are hydrogen busses and vans / bin lorries, cars in Aberdeen, but there are 2 filling stations for the hydrogen and lots of electricity available from wind turbines & solar to produce the hydrogen.

Same on the Northern Isles powering ships, and in Fife for LGV's.

I'm confused. where does the new Kamiq fit in the Skoda range? I thought the Karoq was the replacement to the Yeti.  Is the Karoq bigger the Yeti and Kamiq the same size as Yeti, or is it in between the Karok and Kodiaq, (like the Rapid/Scala)?

None replace the Yeti, there was no Yeti replacement.  They stand alone and are what they are, cars.

Kamiq is smaller than Karoq and Kodiaq. It's also not very tall I believe.

Hi,

I've spent a bit more time browsing Jeep renegade reviews and come across this which means for us the Renegade won't be replacing our lovely Yeti;

Sometimes it pays to stick with what we have.

Kind regards, Colin.

I change my mind on a weekly basis, but my current contender is the VW T-roc.

I've finally accepted that some cars not of Yeti shape do look ok, and I keep coming back to the t-roc shape. It has grown on me and I also like the colour options and extras available.

Friend in Crete has just bought a T-Roc and is very pleased with it

T Cross is 4.11 metres long and T Roc 4.23 metres. Interior space is about the same as is boot space. T Roc gives more engine options (at the moment) and can be had with 4 wheel drive while T Cross is 2 wheel drive only. T Roc is 1573 mm high while T Cross is 1584 mm high.

Generally very close dimensionally, waiting to see both together in the metal to make a truer comparison.

I decided that nothing is going to be the new Yeti so looked out of the box at "normal" cars. I've ended up with a high spec, larger booted similar footprint car at a good price. It does lack the elevated driving position and comfort is not quite as good but I'm happy. I've also managed to get near diesel economy out of a petrol due to the lower height.

Am I really the only one who has made this jump?

Colin

When the time eventually comes to replace my Yeti, I will probably revert to a van-derived car of similar footprint.  There is nothing in the current SUV market  that appeals to me, with the possible exception of the Jimny.

Maybe by the time I start to look for a replacement, the SUV bubble will have burst and Skoda will have introduced an updated Roomster? :notme:

I saw them both in the showroom last week. Interior is a bit bland and there's plenty of the hard plastic that seems to annoy so many people. I thought the boot looked smaller in the T Cross but haven't checked the measurements.

I could potentially be happy with either of them once specced up with gadgets to make them more interesting, but I'm still favouring the T Roc at the moment.

Let me know what you decide. A couple of years before I change so there will probably be more in the mix when I come to decide.

Have a look here .... quite useful for comparing dimensions and capacities.

https://www.automobiledimension.com/volkswagen-car-dimensions.html

And here:

https://www.ridc.org.uk/content/car-search

for other useful dimensions.

Suggests Yeti has a max seat height about 25mm greater than VW T-Roc.

No data for T-Cross yet

Does seem to be some anomalies in the data though

The Motability Website is good for getting car Dimensions.

The Karoq feels about Octavia size internally to me. So spacious imao. Maybe the boot is a bit bigger than the Yeti?

Suzuki Vitara. Bland styling, bland colours, proper slushbox, proper handbrake, Suzuki reliability and a sunroof that will probably never leak.  What's not to like?

Thanks George - I've added it to my list.

I test drove a T Roc 1.0L and I really liked it,  so I'm placing an order through Carfile (£3k discount and car will be delivered to my door on a transporter).

Trying to time delivery with the end of my Yeti pch is a bit of a lottery but if I order now it should take around 5-6 months.

Glad you have found a replacement for your Yeti. Look forward to your report after you get the T-Roc. I am waiting to see a T-Cross 'in the metal’ although I have a while before I change my Yeti. I am wondering what the new Ford Puma - based on the Fiesta - will be like, the Fiesta certainly drives well and Ford use a conventional Auto box which attracts me.

Ford Puma...I remember it as a wee two door sporty looking thing. I'm guessing they've reused the name for something a bit different

There were a few reports in the Motoring mags about the potential new Puma, also a couple of spy photoshops. Latest news is that it is due to be launched end 2019 and that it is a small SUV (Crossover) based on the Fiesta in competition with Juke, Peugeot 2008, Seat Arona etc. If you do a Google search on '2019 Ford Puma' you will see a host of info and speculation! Small SUV Crossover market is sure getting crowded!!

Not sure that the SUV bubble will burst. So many folks have them now and obviously suit their needs that they have become the "normal" car even though a hatch or estate can provide more space.

Was in Croatia last week and at the hotel there was a press launch for the Scala. Must admit if I hadn't already ordered another SUV I'd be tempted. I thought it was a really nice looking car and just the right size.

I think you will find it a drop down in quality after the Yeti. In-laws have the 1.4 Boosterjet auto which goes well and is smooth but the doors are light and don't close with a nice thunk like the Yeti and the interior isn't as good quality. At least with the latest version they have dropped the naff pinky-purple vent surrounds.
