Boot will not unlock consistently

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have just got my first Fabia and I've been getting used to the way it works for the past week. It's a 2016 MkIII.

The problem is I can't figure out the correct way to open the boot and I'm not sure if I'm dealing with a fault or if there is a certain way to unlock it.

I have set the central locking to open all doors however when I unlock the car the boot is still locked no matter how many times I press the unlock button on the remote. Pressing the boot button on the remote once doesn't seem to do anything, however holding it down does unlock and unlatch the boot every time.

Going for a drive and then trying to open the boot sometimes works and it sometimes works when the key is in the ignition.

Is there a set way to open the boot? On my old Corsa pressing the unlock button twice unlocked all the doors including the boot but this dosen't seem to be the case here.

Thanks!

You seem to be doing the right things, ie as the unlocking has been set to one press will unlock all doors, then I'd expect the boot to also be unlocked, also you say that the 3rd key button will not unlock the boot, normally you would only use that when returning to the locked car to place something in the boot and walk away again.

I think that the "key" to your troubles is the fact that if you press down slightly on the hatch on a locked car, the boot will always unlock and I'd expect every time you press the car unlock button or the boot release button - it sounds like the hatch lock has been adjusted too "tightly" - or the boot unlock mechanism is "sticky" and needs cleaned up and greased.  As far as I can make out, these unlocking mechanisms are only activated for a short time, so pressing car unlock or boot release then expecting it to still be able to unlock if it failed at the time it was demanded to be unlocked just will not work.

Thanks for your help! I have tried pressing down on the hatch and then pressing the release button on the boot lid but I haven't had any luck.

Just to clarify though, holding the boot button on the remote unlocks the boot every time without a problem (it also releases it too which is correct behaviour according to what I have read).

Does this sound like a faulty boot release button on the boot lid?

Have you tried pressing the lock/unlock button on the dashboard that should unlock all the doors and boot.

Have you tried the spare key

I have a 2015 Fabia where a couple of times the hatch would not open after not been fully locked. Had to press down hard on the boot lid and pressing the hatch unlock  button a few times to open the door.

Could just be the locking mechanism needs adjusting Joe

My wife has a 2015 Polo 6C so not a Fabia, and sometimes she claims not to be able to open the unlocked hatch, I have always put that down to her hand slipping of the boot handle which is the VW badge thing and so going back for a second grab by which time the lock “open” request has been passed to the latch and maybe the hatch partially opens/releases - if I am being honest that has happened to me once or twice in 3.5 years of owning this car, but I know it has been my mistake and not a car fault - does that sound at all like what you are experiencing? I was initially confusing the key button and the hatch release handle in your earlier posting.

Is it the ''Easy Open'' section you need to activate. See below:-

Central locking - Settings for opening and closing of doors
■ Door unlocking: - Set the door unlocking feature
■ All doors - All doors
■ Single door - Driver's or passenger's door (when unlocking via the sensor
in the passenger door handle)
■ Vehicle side - Doors on the driver or passenger side (when unlocking via
the sensor in the passenger door handle) 
■ Automatic locking - Activate/deactivate automatic locking when starting
off
■ “Easy Open” - Activation/deactivation of the contactless opening of the
boot lid
■ Acoustic confirmation - Activate/deactivate acoustic signals when locking/
unlocking the vehicle with an anti-theft alarm system
■ Open luggage compart. cover automatically - Enable / disable automatic
reeling of the roll-up cargo cover

Thanks AG Falco

Thanks for these tips but unfortunately no luck.

Thanks but I only have the All Doors, Single Door and Vehicle side options, my car doesn't have KESSY.

I had a look at the service history and this problem has been flagged up before, think I'll take this into Skoda and hopefully get this sorted under warranty.

If the car is still inside its warranty period, and that issue has been flagged up for it in the past with Skoda, then I'd say that is the best plan, no point in having to pay for this is it gets worse outside warranty. Just make sure that the dealer you use is aware that you know it has been a logged fault condition in the past - so probably has not been resolved correctly and is not a "one off" which probably would mean that you will be invited to bring it back the next time this happens - make them aware that your aim is for them to sort this out this time.

Seems to be a fault, I also had this behaviour with my newly acquired Fabia Monte Carlo 18 plate. Mine was set to just unlock the drivers door and I constantly found that the only way to open the boot was via the button on the Fob. Having read your post I went to the car and set the all doors option, now when I unlock the car with a single press of the unlock button all doors, including the boot unlock. If this is not true for you there is indeed a fault I would say, hope this helps with your investigations!

Adding to the above. Mine is set to all doors and this includes the boot with a single unlock press. Holding the boot unlock unlatches the boot so I don’t need to fumble around for the handle.

‘19 plate Colour Edition.
