Screen Washer Bottle Empty Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi, can anyone tell me if they have had warning when their screen washer bottle gets near empty? According to the handbook 2 symbols should appear, I assume with a warning noise like my old Focus. My washer fluid ran out completely, but I had no warning that I could see or hear.  Thank you.

Only a warning on the ones with a 'Low Screen Wash Warning' & yours might not have that, so when was your car built, is it a Face Lift model?

Typically, in VW Group cars, you would need to have headlight washers fitted which means a larger washer tank before getting a low washer fluid warning built in - I know my wife's 2002 Polo with headlight washers did not have low washer fluid warning, I don't know if my wife's 2015 Polo with headlight washers has a low washer fluid warning, I never plan to make sure that it works!

Edit:- remember that handbook covers all the normal models so will mention some functions that are only available at higher trim levels and/or if selected factory fitted options are fitted.

Ok, thanks for replies. The dealer thought it should have a warning and diagnostics didn't show any problems, but they were not very convincing, so will wait and see. I don't let the washer bottle level drop too far normally, but with salted roads in the winter it's surprising how much water you use on a long motorway trip. I do always carry a bottle of water for several reasons anyway, but stopping to fill up on motorways is not an option. I did go for the heated screen wash option when i ordered the car so don't know if that has made any difference, unlikely I would have thought. It's a pre-facelift SEL version, so if fitted at all would think this model would have it. Thank you.

My SEL (MY16) doesn't have any washer bottle warning, asked my dealer at some point who said it's not a thing on the Fabia, no idea about the facelift though.

Im surprised that dealers do not know that:

Headlight washers = bigger bottle + warning

No headlight washers = small bottle, no warning

I had a low washer bottle  warning on my old 55 fabia estate sadly its not on my Fabia 2015 SEL :((  Joe

I just keep a 5lt bottle of el cheapo screen wash in the boot :P

Job done.

News to me that they even had headlight washers lol

My parents have a 2016 (66 plate) Fabia SEL and have wondered if it has a low warning message as not seen one. I'm sure it was mentioned in owners manual. Not ran it dry but put fluid in when washers become "frothy".

BTW, what is the washer tank capacity, it seams to last ages?

My facelift  MY19 SE L doesn't have a warning light. I chose not to have headlamp washers.

From memory either 3.5ltr for a small one and 5.0 or 5.5ltr for a big one - big one only fitted when headlight washers are fitted.

I should have made it clear earlier that what I meant to write was:- car without headlight washers and so the small tank will never get a low fluid warning system, conversely a car with headlight washers and so the bigger tank might get the low fluid warning system - also remember as I said, what is written in the owners manual covers all trim levels with all possible factory fitted options.

Edit:- I remember when my wife bought a new 2002 Polo that had winter pack and so headlights and a bigger tank, that I checked the settings using VCDS, found washer warning disabled - enabled it but maybe it then showed it as being faulty - removed some screws from the LHS wheel arch liner and found that there was no sensor fitted to that tank, just a blanking plug, so that was that!

I didn't have control from production, I added it. the same is true of windshield washers, they weren't there and i added it too

Her old car, 53 plate Mk1 comfort didn't have the warning, but my 04 vRS does. Nether have headlight washers, both have 2l bottles. I was surprised being the top of the range SEL it doesn't have one.

I'm still surprised (and annoyed) that our Mk3 doesn't have "one touch" windows as both of our mk1s did.

If anyone's really keen to know whether their car has this level sensing (and can't look at the screenwash reservoir sufficiently), you can get full car data (all PR codes) from this link, https://carinfo.kiev.ua/cars/vin/skoda if you're willing to enter your VIN there.

Within the results, you'll see 8W0 if the car wasn't built with the screenwash level system, 8W1 if it was, 8W2 if it also has a larger reservoir.

I miss the one touch windows. My old estate was an elegance model with heated seats. Did not realise even on the  SEL it was an extra for what i paid for it i would have been better off getting the SE and adding the cruise controll and heated seats still you learn by your mistakes Joe

Do you see a “low screen washer” warning lamp on the dash when you turn the ignition on?

Look quickly, before all the lamp checks disappear.
