The Arona! Even as just four wheels and some seats, I can't imagine why you'd buy one.

My missus is on her second 🤣 I don’t disagree, it is a bit under powered but it’s ideal for the driving she does 90% of the time

  • 🤣🤣 it never moved all day yesterday.. shops not open we just wandered around the area ate lunch out and went to the beach, so no photos taken yet.     I got...    a.

  • Yes... Got here late Monday night and collected a very base model Seat Ibiza in white. It's clearly had a few bumps and repairs but drives very well with about 44k km on it and is fine for the narr

  • Part two. Having rejected the Haval we waited for 1/4 hour and were presented with a Toyota Corolla Cross, these are probably, along with the Toyota's mentioned earlier by Gaz, one of the most common

I had a 1.0 FR. I was really disappointed with it, but that said, I was also disappointed with the brand new Leon FR I got a week later. Compared to my old 2016 Leon it was worse in every way, aside from the backup camera.

To be honest, my main gripe with the Arona isn’t the car itself - it’s the type. It’s no bigger than my parents Ibiza (granted, it is the same car), but yet costs more and is worse to drive! I’d understand it if it was bigger, but it’s actually rather small - especially in the back.

Then again, all of that aside, I took their brand new 1 Series out into the country a few weekends ago - 350mm M Sport brakes with four piston calipers, adaptive suspension, and volume controls you can twiddle your finger to. I was so disappointed. Okay, yes, it felt faster than what it is, and it drove nicely, but it was absolutely devoid of any feel and the ride was awful! I know it’s an A to B car, and suits my dad absolutely to a T, but I was just expecting a bit more - especially compared to our old 330i. I’ve no idea what the obsession is with making new cars steering wheels feel like you’re operating the car behind.

Qashqai/ Mokka/ Grandland?

Unbelievably the first guess by @Lee01 was spot on!!

It's a 1.4 Qashqai automatic in gloss primer grey with dinky grey wheels. Reasonable inside but being a 74 plate it was binging and bongong all the time until two of us worked out how to turn it all off. After that it's been OK if rather jerky setting off from stationary. It'll do the job for a couple of days...

Congratulations @Lee01 ! You win…… nothing 🤣 have a shiny trophy emoji 🏆

Ok it's hire car time again... UK based for work, ordered a small crossover (juke sized) for another trip down south to Ipswich via Enterprise...

Mokka/ Frontera/ Grandland?

I second the Grandland.

Drove one once, briefly, awful.

Renault Captur/Dacia Duster/Toyota C-HR

Nope...Grandland too big, captur possibly a tad small and I would have been happy with a Duster or a C-HR but nope.

Think platform sharing compact crossover...

SEAT Ateca/ another MQB A1🤷

Nope... I'll give you a clue... Stellantis...

Peugeot 3008/Jeep Compass

C4 Cactus /Aircross

Nope

I'll put you out of your misery... It was a 2008 Allure 1.2 manual in that bluey green colour

It was actually a far better drive than I expected, that 1.2 was a punchy little thing and the 'nagging' software was nowhere near as bad as the Nissan Qashqai I had previously.

What was amusing was my mate trying to drive it after years of driving and automatic... Lots of revs, clutch slipping and jerking...

Quite old for a hire car thinking

I didn't stand a chance 😁

Ok... Next one a few days later...

SUV Group R (again compact crossover) hired via Goldcar from Reus airport in Spain...

For this I'm mainly going back to my previous suggestions of Renault Captur/Dacia Duster/Toyota C-HR/3008 plus a Seat Arona (not sure what counts as group R without checking).
