Agreed on all of that.

This lane assist nanny is a PITA so found a button to disable that crap. Freaked me out at first when the steering had a wobbly 😂

Need to disable the speed warning bong as it's damned annoying.

Road noise is quite high IMO as well but maybe that's the tyres and the screen demister isn't the greatest either.

EVERY time (even after a 30sec key out moment..) i get into the new van i have to -

fob on the tracker the company isnt allowed use the data from..

turn off the lane departure steering

turn off the collision braking and steering

turn off the soeed warning bong - its limited to indicated 124/125kph which is gps 119kph and still bings at me on the 120kph motorway..)

turn off the stop start (it annoys me)

turn off the "driver alerts" that tell you when youve been driving 15mins you might need a break.. or if you roll over a road marking avoiding some rubbish..

its ridiculous 🤬

There doesn't seem to be a "tearing your hair out by the roots" emoticon?

To be honest that's pretty good...   It could have been a lot worse!

Just a pity it's ruined by all the nannying tech that's now mandatory.

so... apparently Thrifty/Hertz Tenerife's idea of a Hyundai Tuscon is .....

A VW T-Cross.

its an autobix petrol, and grand to drive of course it is.

but... tha k the lord god almighty we only brought 3 of our allowed 4 10kg bags +our 1 20kg, because if we had brought them all.... i wouldve been going back to the left luggage office at the airport on Monday morning to collect it..had carry bags in the back seats wut the boys and the push chair. and the parcel shelf in beside spud jrs door..possibly the best/worst game of bag tetris ive had to play in a very very long time!!!

Do you not have to be a UK resident to hire a car from a UK hire company or have I got that completely wrong?

If so how did you overcome the obstacle?

Asking for myself as it would be cheaper for me to do the same as and when I have (no choice but) to visit the UK, also it's a liability taking my own vehicle now I no longer have a house and more importantly a workshop there.

No and yes.

Just a full driving licence and a credit card in case there's any camera traps that catch you or in case of damage etc.

well, its loaded up again.. and i discovered in daylight.. the adjustable boot floor was elevated at pickup time 🤦 reult... a 6inch drop in the floor level, so combined with repacking such that i have 1 less suitcase to deal with, everything fit in the boot (just) and the carryon bags and pushchair (last trip for that thing!) are in the back seat between the spuds.

at an aircon'ed softplay centre now, before we have lunch and then head to yond aeropuerto...

I'd have been back to the hire company on that...   A T-cross is nowhere near the same size as a Tucson...   Its from the size sector below.

yeah, except, i couldnt be arsed having an argument with them, as the missus was already fairly well sick of the travelling, baggage collection, 2 spuds being tired and fed up too.

  • 2 months later...

VW Polo or similar next Friday from Heathrow T5 so we'll see.

Sixt again as they came out cheapest on the comparison sites and upgraded me to the Cee apostrophe D last time.

Turned out I got a Grand land.
