Skoda Favorit Speedo Drive

Featured Replies

Hi All

I have just picked up a 1994 Favorit which I intend to take on a European adventure later in the year. Upon getting it home I noticed a large patch of gearbox oil on the drive. Seems to be the shifter rod seal. I have new parts on order but reading through the forum it seems that there is a risk of dropping the speedo drive into the gearbox when I come to refil the oil, however the posts just seem to say be careful and don't really say how to make sure I don't do it!  Do I have to do something particular in order to minimise risk, or is it just case of if it's broken or weak, it drops?

Many thanks

Wes

This is the only case when it can drop.

thanks for the reply Ricardo.  I better keep my fingers crossed then!

I assume that if its broken it will fall in no matter what I do? Or is there a way to pull it out which minimises risk

It is not like it falls in a dark deep pit full of demons. There are chances to grab it with a long pair of tweezers. If it is in once piece, that is.
