RoofBox came back to me today and they said they had had another Karoq customer with the same issue..... the manufacture said:

‘The customer should raise the clamps a little bit, the railing should not be necessarily always in the middle of the clamp’s rubbers. What is really important is that the railing remains always in contact with the rubbers. Looking at the pictures, it seems that the customer can raise the bars a little bit.

Apart from this, please tell the customer to tight the bars as much as possible with the provided tool (Allen Key). By tightening them enough, they should remain always in the same position.’

So I have: they seem not to move..... I will email RoofBox back with the image to see if that is OK - they don't touch the roof but are close...... Looking at others here there is a little more space...

Considering the maximum load that roof bars can carry I would not rely on the advice to do them up tight. One decent pothole with a fully loaded roof could have the fitting bash the roof. At a minimum I would insert some sort of packing to preclude this.

A plastic wine cork might work.

Met a friend tonight who had some on his Peugeot, they look perfectly good certainly good enough for carrying the odd bit of timber so I'll be outside Lidl 10am Sunday.

Just checked my box which shows  311606 and has Karoq listed as a fitment on the side so they are the right ones, expect some of the boxes were printed off a while back. They look and fit just like th

Are the end caps lockable too as the bar clamps are?

if caps ends are lockable then obviously can’t cut down a 135cm to fit wider part of Karoq roof rails (front)

cheers

The Aldi bars can be cut to any length, the plastic end cap is a push fit.

Hi HazzaT

FYI

Cruz ones are lockable.

I've got the Italian Menabo Brio from Lidl and I am satisfied so far. We've put large roof box (Thule Motion 800) on them with 4 pairs of skis and boots and went 500 km to Austria in winter without any problem. Easy and quick instalation and it is possible to buy other compatible accesories such as ski racks (e.g. Menabo Iceberg). I use the roof bars 3-4 times a year, so it is not worth to spend 3 times more for Thule.

I bought the bars from Aldi. A reviewer on their website was not happy with the warning to not exceed 55mph. Lidl have similar bars but no warning.

I'll be using them with a roofbox so will do my usual 60mph. To add to security I'll put a luggage strap around the lot. Tight.

Another reviewer said they create an annoying whistling noise, cured by wrapping a bungee cord around.

I've had a number of touring motorcycles over the last 40 years and every one of 'em had some sort of warning on the panniers / top-box advising that they should not be used over 80kmh......despite travelling (on occasions) at close to 200kmh I never had any trouble.

The warning on the bars is there to help with any potential court case where the owner hasn't secured 'em properly and there's been some incident.....I have the Aldi bars and I won't be staying under 55mph at all times.

Thought I would give an update..... what a lot of hassle these things have been.  As you know I got the above bars and the bike racks to go with them.... first trip away with them.... they failed!   Yes one of the bikes was hanging of the roof of the car!  could not believe it.  Roof bars were ok, but the bike rack had lost parts on the 100 mile trip.  So I had to purchase new racks and The Roof Box Company were able to refund me and swap out every thing.....  Anyway - I would not recommend the above make and I was told Roof Box took the racks off there website....

The new kit - not yet had a chance to fit, but looks more like the Aldi ones :)

If you read this post alongside my post of 14th May in this thread, you could be forgiven for concluding that 'Cruz', as a brand, isn't too clever.

Menabo brio 120cm, bought from lidl, perfectly fitted.
