How easy is it to steal an Octy?

Featured Replies

A few years a pal devised his own alarm system for his old banger at a cost of 60pence. :)

METHOD: Take 1 standard audio cassette, stand outside local fire station and record departing vehicles with klaxons going.

Insert cassette into player on leaving vehicle with volume at maximum.

On 2 occasions the local toe-rags tried to steal the car but as soon as the ignition was activated a deafening NEE NO, NEE NO filled the night air:rofl:

Secret was to remember to turn the volume down before you started up in the morning otherwise there were very strange looks from passersby:rofl:

ScoobyChris. I have a mate with a Skyline whose dad works at the Fylingdales MOD listening station on the North York Moors. He took it up there one day to pick his dad up, and when he came to drive it off - nothing. The massive radio waves from the military device jammed his engine management system. The tow truck arrived to tow him off and the electric winch wouldn't work either, so no luck there. In the end they had to turn the station off for two minutes to allow him to start the car and drive away. Any longer and the US goverment would have been on the blower to see it it was still there. True story, honest.

do the octys suffer from the problem that the mk4 golf had?

basically, you know if you put your key in the door and hold it against unlock, all the windows roll down - well, turns out, you don't have to use a key to turn it to do this.

Sigma M30 here using a separate remote from the main key. Chris is right about the interference, couple of years ago I parked at Cap Gris Nez in france and couldnt lock the car using the alarm remote. The reason is that Cap Gris Nez is a coastguard station, complete with a radar monitoring system that seemed to screw up the car alarm.

Landwomble, apparently not as the lock barrel is secured in a different way.

at the end of the day most theives will think nick a skoda no way most of them are more interested in bloody 1.1 fiestas or metros

but like they say if they want it they will get it they dont care as its not there car they will just smash the window then there away alarms and imobilizers dont really do nothing because they find ways around them

It's frighteningly easy to get into an Octavia without even breaking any windows (but there will be some damage elsewhere). Driving it away without a valid key might be a bit more difficult, though.
