Goodwood festival of Speed

Featured Replies

Getting tickets for this:rofl: :D:rofl: but was wondering if the granstand tickets are worth it (~20 quid extra)- also we are thinking of going on the first day (Friday 7th July) is this ok or will we miss out on some events if we go so early on?

Any help and advice from seasoned event goers (and anyone else) would be great...

Callum

Stay for the whole day as the F1 cars dont run until late. The grandstand s very much worth it in case it rains. Its also the only place to sit down and get a view on the straight past the house.

However, if its sunny there is a nice grassy bank to sit on in the sun just before the walled section.

If I go this year we'll be getting grandstand tickets for sure.

Been every year & never bought grandstand tickets yet, really depends what you want to see, I seem to spend a lot of time looking at the cars, we are also members so have the members marque for lunch & if it rains.

It gets very busy all 3 days but Friday is slightly quieter & theres less kids (means you have to queue less on the scalextric stand for a go)

Best tip I can give you is to aim to be there when it opens as queues build up quickly, get in the Paddock as soon as you get there as it gets busy & piccies are hard to take later. Theres usually a seperate paddock for "exotics" tucked round thge side of the house & thats well worth a visit

Unless you are South of Goodwood come over the hill at the back past the Goodwood Horse race track, you will get in quicker & its a nice non motorway drive. The queues off the A27 tend to build quickly & are long

If you enjoy a drive aim for Winchester, then pick up the A272 to Petersfield, then head towards Chichester. Before Chichester you come to a Tee junction, take a left & you are heading towards the Horse track & Singleton open air museum, (it should already have been sign posted from there). Its then right, up over the hill & you are in

It really is a great day out & you will spend a whole day there. The paddock just before the start is a good place to see the cars running, also theres a few public stands by the pedestrian bridge opposite the house, these give a reosnable view & as Goochie said theres the grass bank part way up the hill.

Thers a lot of walking so Ladies take decent shoes & if its dry it can get quite dusty as they have a rally course now & tanks etc giving rides across an adjacent field, a back pack with some drink in is also an idea.

You should have a great day out.

Where is a good spot then all you Goodwood veterans? Going tomorrow and need some advice on where to head etc...

Cheers,

Cal

Went to Goodwood on Friday, i'd agree, there wasn't much in the way of talent on show.. too many old posh folk.

Highlights were ofcourse the Veyron amongst the other exotic super cars. Seing the F1 cars in action, however the Rothmans F1 car had a habbit of stalling. The Le Man verson of the Aston Martin lighting up its tyres long the stright infront of the House. Also keep an aye out for a white transit with a 'hows my driving? sticker in the rear, you'll know what i mean when you see it floor it (i bet hes had fun at the lights a few times).

Downsides getting caught in the 12miles of traffic going into Goodwood, the journey took us over 4hours to do 150miles.

Also anyone whos going be very aware of the police mobile speed cameras set up just outside Goodwood, i saw about 3 of the buggers yesturday, aiming to get people flooring it from round-about to round-about after sitting in traffic for 50mins.

Enjoyable day, pitty i had work to get back for else you could spent all day there.

*Must say thankyou for www.timesonline.co.uk for giving us free tickets*

If anyone gets any photos of the Fabia WRC at the festival of speed they would be appreciated for the site below :)

2nd time for me and we have got the perfect solution for it. Drive down friday am, spend all day friday doing the paddocks, supercars, exhibitors, etc. We then spend Saturday am watching the first run up the hill, from the ijnside of turn 2 and the go and watch the top paddock for the saturday afternoon.

Doing it this way means we see everything in the paddocks *and* everything go up the hil, it because we aren't there on sunday the crowds are nice and manageble. Oh it helkps that I mates with the deputy marshall for the top paddock and when we watch the top paddock we are actually in it...

My goodwood programme from this year is nearly priceless. It has been signed by Alan McNish, Charlie Boorman, Petter Solberg, Nigel Mansell and Sir Stirling Moss. And there the ones I got, also bumped into Colin McRae, Tom Kirstenson (spelling?) Mika Hakininen (spelling?) Anthony Davidson, Jackie Stewart, Mark Webber, and a lot more I've forgotten...

Bit star struck!

:D
