Noisy AC system

Featured Replies

Does enyone has a fix for noisy AC system in Fabia III, the noise is coming from gas passing through system, according skoda this is normal but it is quite annoying.

Usually gets noisy when the refrigerant quantity is low. How old is the car?

Brand new, and i checked the sound in brand new in saloon, same noise, also the noise is present in new rapid, so it is factory noise but for me it is above normal, it is high frequency noise like the fan bearing is worn but it is not it is noise of AC media.

For 1 day after id had my AC recharged on its 4th year service, it was silent. Soon after back to its noisy shenanigans, still cooling fine. Just the noise is pretty annoying.

Perhaps they didn't fill it enough?

I've a Mk3 MC and the aircon is silent; only the fan is noisy. It's noisy at all speeds: barely acceptable on 1, too loud on 2, deafening on 3, and nuclear on 4!

Mine makes a gassing/degassing type noise when first switched on. Made more notable when set to recirculate air in the cabin, less so when fed externally. Never been an issue. I have only had mine at fan setting 2 at most, and that's ample for all scenarios I've come across.

It is noisy on first start especially. Mine has 5k miles always done it.

I can hear it from the backseat!

When the fan is on 1st speed only, other speeds cover up with air flow noise, just wondering is there a cure for this issue or not.

Its not really an issue, maybe a poor design in terms of noise isolation but anything that uses refrigerant makes these kinds of noises. Our fridge and dehumidifier make a similar noise so does the air conditioning at my work. I only really hear it when I first set off, kinda reassuring to know its working tbh.

They make a brief growl when switched on. The fans make a blowy noise and you'll get additional air-rush noise from near the glove compartment when recirculation is enabled. The refrigerant tends to make a hissing sound.

Mine (brand new) also makes a nasty grinding noise from the pump most evident over 2000rpm. This isn't normal and investigation is ongoing.

Probably the cause is poor isolation or position of evaporator, on octavia only the start up can be noticed with gas sound. To me this is a big minus for Fabia III.

My wife's August 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL made a few "gas" noises when I switched it on yesterday to combat misting windows in "stair rod" style rain, but it quickly did its job!

But do you hear the noise if you switch off fan and turn on/off the AC?

The compressor pump should not operate without airflow from the fan.

Note that if you have the fan on with all airflow to windscreen demisters, with AC off the compressor still runs to dehumidify the air.

My mistake, do it on speed 1,turn on off AC and listen the sound change from central vents above infotainment. For now if I keep vents closed I hear the noise less.

I have this noise too on my brand new fabia only a month old. noticed this noise while on a test drive and ask the dealer about it, he checked up on the issue but was told its normal.

I accept it as its not exactly an expensive car but I can't see how putting in some noise isolation here would've been too much of an expense to do. After all air con isn't a new technology and even in my last car, Hyundai i30 which is the same sort of price budget, there was no noise at all.

Did you find a fix? Shutting off the vents is a bit besides the point don't you think 🤔

Ventilation fans get noisier as they run faster. It's a side effect of a law of fluid dynamics. So if you have, say, 6 bars of fan speed the ventilation will be noisier than if you have 2.

Simples!

It isn't noise of air flow or fan, it is noise of freon passing through evaporator in cabin, bad insulation or too close located to ventilation ducts.

I usually hear it when it’s just turned on and turning off. 🙄😂

The AC runs all the time but when the switch is off it only works a 5-6 %.

Just enough for it to tick over and help stop the AC seals drying out.

I have noticed that my car can have the AC on even with the AC switch off.

I reckon the car thinks it is smarter than me. ( it is probably right. 😉 )

Thanks AG Falco

Fact remains that in fabia and rapid AC is too noisy. For me not acceptable, fabia I just sold so I don't have this problem anymore 🤔
