In the box in the boot, awaiting fitting. Still can't afford to have it fitted professionally.

Hopefully nothing happens in the interim! 😦

I have the Nextbase duo, front and rear camera. Never wired it into a spare fuse in any car, but it plugs into a dual socket I fitted into the car from the single socket. I did it this way so that I c

If folk are really quick, then you can buy a Nextbase from Halfords via their EBAY account with 20% off the brand new range.

Have to say I didn't like their older models - too big, blocked out a fair chunk of the windscreen so I returned it for a refund. But the new models are smaller and have a much better fix to the mounting.

As others say, it's easier to prove a point if required by insurance. I didn't need all the bells and whistles, just good quality image. Bought the new NEXTbase 222 from Halfords for £43.20 delivered. Offer ends midnight tonight tho.

I just came here to post the same. Can buy straight from Halfords site too: https://www.halfords.com/technology/dash-cams/dash-cams?partnumber=158982,159062,355818,496797

Although I noticed that Amazon currently have it for £119 too and the new rear cam for £45 (the old rear cam is only £30 atm)

Great review of the series 2 cams here: https://kit.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/review-nextbase-522gw-dash-camera/

I’ll be placing my order soon as the old cam is now in the wife’s Cactus whilst I wait for my new car to arrive.

I fitted a Mobius ActionCam as a front dashcam ages ago.

I've been involved in two incidents on roundabouts and in both cases the dashcam showed the 3rd party was at fault. This means I was able to contact the 3rd parties insurance company who agreed to provide a hire car and repair mine at a garage of my choice.

Certainly made it very easy, even more as roundabout claims can be difficult to prove fault on :)

Actually it’s even better than above at Halfords - the 522gw is £119 (20% off) and they’ll also do half price on the rear camera when bought together making it £143.50, still cheaper than the regular price of just the front camera. Off to purchase!

I have a mirror mounted Mi camera.  Gives me a bigger mirror which is useful for seeing the boy in the back better and just seeing more in general.  The screen is built into the mirror and can be wired up with the supplied rear cam as a reverse cam or regular rear cam only.  I am yet to wire up the rear as I just haven't had the time to look up the best way to route the wires.

Currently the cam is powered by a 12 socket extension with a hardware on/off button.  forgotten to turn it off on occasion and not had an issue with starting up the next day.  Have a spare battery bank so will try fitting that in the system somewhere so I don't have to turn the camera off.

Had someone leave me a nice dent in the boot a few months ago which I did some digging but couldn't find the culprit.  A rear permanent cam would have solved it.

I have had my insurance premium drop by about 75 for just stating I have a dashcam, so they are now beginning to pay for themselves.

Have a Mobius in both my cars, and my partner has front and rear ddpai.

The ddpai in parking mode recorded someone who backed into her car while reversing then drove off. Allowed her to make a claim of the other persons insurance to get the damage fixed.

 Nice one, I've just grabbed a 322GW for £79.20

The suction mount on my 312GW kept dropping off the screen in my old Golf so I've been putting off installing it in the Octavia.

Thinkware F770 Front and Rear, Hardwired into the fusebox

Hey, just to piggyback on this topic, I have a Nextbase dash cam but have not got around to fitting it yet, but I had the same idea for the front, but hardwire it into the fuse box - which fuse did you use (cigarette lighter fuse?) assuming you did it downstream of the fuse so it is not hardwired into the battery.

Thanks

Matt

Did you want the camera to go on and off with the ignition, or stay on all the time? If you want an ignition live fuse -i tend to go for rear wiper. If you use the official nextbase hardwire kit -it comes with a piggy-back fuse kit and is a dodle to install

Thanks - I want it to be switchable with the ignition, I only have a front dash cam and bought it last year so did not purchase the hardwire kit, if its inexpensive then maybe I will go ahead and get the kit to save me some effort.

Regarding dash cams, last year whilst parking to take a phone call a skip lorry who was parked up further decieded to reverse, I looked up but as ignition was off could not warn him. So should I have it on constant ?. It is wired up to ignition as well as my reverse one is. Damage was bonnet, rad, both wings lights front grill.

It's also £119 on Ebay Halfords, but with a further 20% off brings it down to £95.20.  The rear cam is £49 but with 20% off brings it down to £39.20   So if you buy both from Halfords Ebay and enter the special discount code ( PURE20 ) the total for both is £134.40.

You should know better than to question a Scotsman when it comes to finding bargains. :D

I made a mistake. That Ebay discount code finishes tonight.

Hi, have the NextBase 112

So for you it seems to start when you turn on the car. For parking mode - assuming that model has it (not sure) - you will have to connect it to your fuze box. You would then need some gadget to prevent it killing your battery. For Blackvue cameras it's the Power Magic Pro or the battery pack. There seems to be an equivalent for Nextbase, as Maffy referenced above.

Thanks will take a look at it

I don't see the point unless you get a front and a rear. A front one won't help if you are rear-ended. It would only catch someone cutting across you or you going in to the back of someone. I see the point of getting 2 I suppose but then I have 3 cars so it would get expensive! :)

Dammit! I misread your post, didn’t realise it was an extra 20% off. I ordered it from Halfords last night :crying:

If you connect the next base to the fuse box it will turn on/off with the engine and won’t interfere with the car battery (so long as you pick a fuse which is only live with ignition on).

Dont think i explained myself clearly above. I’m speculating that you could potentially use a regular power bank (like you can use to charge a phone/tablet) and connect it between the fuse and the camera, thereby powering the camera when the engine turned off and when on it would recharge the power bank. Sounds good in my head but don’t know how well that would work in practice though.

A Power magic pro is only powering the dash cam in parking mode when the camera wakes up. A power bank would provide constant power with the ignition off.  Would heat be a problem if the dash cam was on all the time

How long would a power bank keep it going?

I don’t know if heat would be a problem? Quite possibly. Next base have parking modes on them too, I guess I’m probably trying to solve a problem which doesn’t need solving...

Absolutely no idea! My guess would be a 26000mAh could run it for quite a few hours. All speculative of course.

Hmm. I'll try it out. Just thought that once drained the camera would shut down and then the power bank would require turning back on once power is out to it. Will put one in tomorrow and see how it goes. As a minimum for me it needs to run for 48hrs I recon to allow me to then drive again to give it a boost.
