Karoq 1.5 TSi DSG

Featured Replies

I've just joined the forum, so I haven't found my way around yet. However, I've been referred here by Honest John, after I asked how to confirm whether our Karoq, bought just over a week ago, has a wet or dry clutch 7-speed gearbox, as he wasn't sure about the 1.5. Naturally I'd prefer the more robust former, but can anyone help? I'm still waiting for a reply from the dealer. I'll have a good look around the forum later on. Many thanks

Dry clutch DQ200 I'm afraid.

I wouldn't worry to much the dq200 is rated for the power output of the 1.5tsi and has been out for ages.

I've had it in three cars and it's been fine in my ownership. The only issue I had was in my wife's Leon and micro switch failed and was covered under warranty.

Enjoy your car.

Wet clutch DQ381 comes with 1.5 DSG 4x4.

I'd recommend taking out Skoda's own extended warranty with a DQ200, best you buy the factory version which must be purchased at point of first registration/purchase or earlier.

You can buy an extended Skoda warranty at any time but it may be cheaper if bought when new.

There are 2 different extended warranties. The one that must be bought at time of registration/factory ordering is a full Skoda factory warranty. After this point the only option is the Skoda UK finance company (insurance based) version. The factory version is more comprehensive.

They cost the same iirc.

Factory version covers all DSG failures.

Skoda UK finance version, only covers sudden failure and clutch packs are excluded.

Later DQ200 are not nearly as problematic as the early ones, I would not worry too much.

I've just spoken to the dealer and their technician has told me that the 1.5 TSi  150PS is fitted with a wet clutch DSG!

.....and I bet he also said nobody has complained about marsupial behaviour.

Just saying....

Skoda documentation (https://cdn.skoda-storyboard.com/2017/07/TD-KAROQ-en-1.pdf) says that the 2WD versions are "two coaxial dry multiple-disk clutch, electro-hydraulically" and the 4WD are "two coaxial wet multiple-disk clutch, electro-hydraulically operated operated"

Only if it’s a 1.5 Tsi 150 4x4.

Be a bit wary with that link. Last time I tried it, it took me some time to stop pictures of nekkid ladies from popping up all over my phone...

And the time before, it didn't find any info.

Oh dear! Skoda UK has confirmed that our Karoq is fitted with the dry clutch gearbox. I now have an issue to take up with the dealer over the extended warranty. It was on my list of options but the sales person hadn't included it on the order and said it could be bought prior to the fourth year. However, I've now found that this doesn't cover gearbox failure, which is a possibility. (Xman quoted ' Skoda UK finance version, only covers sudden failure and clutch packs are excluded). Skoda UK has told me that unless the extended warranty was applied  pre-registration, it can't have the extended warranty from new. Had I known this, I would not have bought the car as we plan to keep it for four years. I now need to find out whether the sales person has misled us. I've spoken to the Sales Manager and will report later.

If you pop your vin number in here it will show you all options your car has including gearbox code.

Hi Kenny many thanks but the link didn't provide the necessary information. Wino: I hope I'm not going to be overwhelmed by messages from busty Russian widows desperate to meet me, which happened on the Y**i forum, until I installed Ad Bloc!

Strange how it doesn’t show gearbox type, it certainly worked for me an others on the Kodiaq forum. And no nekkid ladies reported either :)

Did it give you any info?  I haven't tried it again since. It used to work, certainly; I tried it with one or two VINs maybe three or four (or more) months back, with success.

Don't worry, it's just worked for me, without any boobs. Must have better 'boob blockers' on my laptop than on phone.

Like you, a 4th year extended warranty was in my list of options. And like you for whatever reason it didn't happen. I intend to keep the Karoq 4 or max 5 years.

What about a Kitty Kitty? Not wanting to pay pet insurance, my friend set aside a monthly sum to help pay for any possible operations etc with their cat. It never needed any treatment, so it became savings.

Im not going to bother with that, as the mileage I do probably does not warrant it. I do approx 8,000 miles a year, including a regular 8mile x 2 commute 5 days a week. The engine stopped in traffic, which is not too heavy.  The DQ200 box does not seem to be too problematic, and I drive sympathetically with the car, letting the footbrake off waiting half a second for the box to engage before driving off.

I will probably buy the Skoda insurance based warranty when the car is "of age".

I did this with my BMW 330D, and the auto gearbox was repaired by BMW insurance FOC.

All that said, I'm still a little miffed that the salesman didn't get it right!

After 15 months, im still very happy with the car.

This gearbox has been around for a while now and yes there were some issues with them although I've no idea what the yield was or is today. Feedback would have been sent and the clever bods with odd hair and sandals that will have done a bit of head scratching to sort it out.  A current generation  box should be well sorted by now. I have a 1.5 DSG and was also concerned a tad before ordering  but all is well. so far When anything goes into volume production some problems may arise, the issue is dealt with.

Unfortunately is seems more and more manufacturers are using the buyer as a beta tester.

To summarise the dry clutch box should be sorted by now although I've no data to back this up....

This has been an interesting introduction to Briskoda and I'm very impressed by the level of support I've been given. Thank you everyone. The Sales Manager called yesterday evening to say Skoda has agreed to apply the four year warranty, which will give me peace of mind during our ownership. Otherwise the Karoq is brilliant and the gearbox is smoother than the 6-speed on our Yeti. I was slightly concerned about the lower torque compared to the diesel, but having travelled up some of the steep parts of N Yorkshire, including Saltersgate Bank and the Saltburn hairpins, the gearbox does all the work, the K performs admirably and the car drives like a limo. As Karoq owners already know their cars, are detailed comments welcomed here? I'd like to report back in detail on the Karoq to the Y**i forum, in case anyone is considering exchanging their Yeti for a Karoq. So far, I'd certainly recommend it owing to the many additional features and increased inside space. I am also growing to like the the external appearance: although only marginally wider and longer than the Yeti, it looks so big!

Ah Saltburn, I’m sure that’s the place I used to have nightmares about.

Many years ago we were driving down to Scarborough in the old mk1 Cavalier with 2 kids and packed to the gunnels. SWMBO was chief navigator/ map reader and somehow we cut off far to early and ended up driving on a coastal road similar to a rollercoaster with many steep hills a scarey bends and I’m sure it was Saltburn. If it was I can imagine it a good test for your Karoq.

Hi Kenny. Yes, that sounds like the Saltburn hairpins! A lovely town, developed in the mid-1800's, with good shops, a clean sandy beach, a pier and a cliff lift from the upper parking area to the pier. Plenty of windsurfers to be seen too and dogs are allowed during the holiday months to the left of the pier as you look out to sea.
