New problem from yesterday! When I go to close the boot on my 2006 roomster, the tailgate doesn't lock ( the door bounces free). After a few times it seems to catch but the 'door open' hazard is on and the boot area light is on. Sometimes the boot mechanism clicks  several times.  Feels like the boot mechanism or wiring is on the way out and about to properly fail. ALl looks clean and tidy around the mechanism, ,  Does anybody know how to fix this? any simple diagnostics or checks? thanks!

 

Probably the wiring loom where it passes thro the gaiter between the tailgate and the car. It is possible but difficult to pull back the gaiter to see the problem. I repaired mine by removing the trim inside the tailgate (and quite a bit of skin from my hands)
