Torn between a VRS 245 and an SE L 1.5 TSI

Well you guys have convinced me, I think I'll go for the VRS before they disappear for a year. Thanks for your help!

On a run to Germany in my FL230 vRS I averaged 44.3 mpg over 420 miles. That said, the same trip in our TDI vRS was 57 mpg.

I'd rather drive a powerful car like a granny 80% of the time to enable the other 20%.

Like eating a donut without licking your lips.

Very happy with my 2.0TSI/190 with DSG.

Considered VRS but leather upholstery not available.

I go for comfort not speed 😀

Unless you want to wait I think you'll have to find it in whatever is available from stock, but good discounts are there to be had.

My missus has the 1.5TFSI motor in her A3. We haven't had the kangaroo problem and it's a very nice car..................

For her..........😁

She's off work ill at the moment so I went in it today, save getting mine out the garage.....

It took me about the first 10 miles to get used to how "underpowered" 150hp really is.........😛

I would go for the 245 any day of the week....

Don't worry about the fuel consumption (mine does 40+mpg if anyone cares).  In 15 years time you won't look back from your electric box on 4 wheels and say " I wish I had got the nice sensible economical version of the Octy."

Ironically, I let my head rule my heart and got the vRS based on it being the sensible choice.

If my heart had won I'd be driving something significant faster and thirsty.

The 245's aren't going to get any cheaper ... that's for sure. In June, Skoda were taking £4.5k off before the dealer was even cutting into their own margin. Made Drive the Deal look overpriced.

Cheapest Vrs on the configurator now is 245 DSG at £28,700 before discount and even the diesel Vrs is DSG only and 4 x 4 at nearly £30,000.:whew:

Just thought I'd add this....

Turns out cruising at 50mph will get about 55-58mpg average on the TSI.

That's based on going back and forth between 2 junctions on the M27 (currently 50mph limited) so start and end elevations are the same.

It dropped as soon as I came off the motorway and by the time I'd parked up it was under 52.

I wasn't driving purely to do that btw, I was trying to get my toddler to sleep (managed it).  I just thought I'd see it of interest what it actually gets at 50.

In reality you'll struggle to ever get above 50 average with any traffic, hills, starting and stopping etc I think.  But close to 50 over a long distance has got to be doable.

Saw 300mpg on the instant readout very briefly before averaging 43.7mpg on todays 26 mile commute. Good tank average so far maxidot showing 40.6mpg covered 413 miles with 40 miles range left. Fill up on way home at around 439 miles.

I'll never get that, I struggle to get above 34mpg over the tank as my average journey lengths are too short, have too much town driving and I can't drive like an angel for a whole tank before I crack.

Interesting that all urban worst case is maybe 20 or so, theoretical max is about 57, where you fall between depends on all the variables.

Take it on a track and you can get it down to my best (or worst) of 9.7mpg.

The 245 can be fuel efficient even for me, family holidays can see high 30's avg. per tank whereas, my usual commute see's low 20's but, I get more opportunities than most to explore the car's limits.

Actually managed 441 miles on 48.48 litres (10.66 gallons) at an average of 41.37mpg with range of 10 miles left on maxidot.

I'll just throw this in from my 1.5 Wallaby Edition Octavia .....

1.5 TSi is crap. Mine had the supposed SW fix and it still kangaroos about when warm (though not now when cold). Mine is a company car, have taken to parking it outside on the street in the hope somebody drives into it.

Only one worth having is a VRS petrol. No other Skoda would be even considered by me. Many other makes before like the majority of people, there's a reason for that as much as cuckoo's think otherwise. You can put up with the badge and cheap build with a VRS but lesser models just go elsewhere. Unless it's cheap to go a-b
