Karoq sportline seat wear/strange marks

Featured Replies

Hey all - has anyone else with a Karoq Sportline had issues with strange marks appearing on the seats? I've had my car for 5 months, covering 4500 miles and I have some real strange wear marks on the seats. In places the seats have aan almost whitish loo up close, as if all of the surface material has been worn away, I also have lots of marks that look like liquid marks (despite not spilling anything). I'm taking it in to the dealers but just wanted to see how other sportlines are holding up.

I believe the seat material is specific to these cars as they have the thermoflex material

How did you get on? also pictures would be good.

I'm picking my Sportline up this weekend and wondering if this is something to watch out for, as you say the Thermoflux material is specific to these cars

Hi just got my brand new Sportline on Weds and drove it for 2 days, also noticed white marks/ wear on seats already - did you go to the dealer?

Might be a bit late for you but on fabric seats its well worth pre treating them with a stain block and protection product. It used to be Scotchgard a few years ago, but I checked some reviews and Dodo Juice fabric sealant looks like the current best buy. I got 2 for £30 from Amazon and did my Octavia with less than 1 bottle. I'll do my daughters SEAT Leon when I get chance. If your seats can be cleaned up its got to worth a shot.

changed seat to SEAT!!

If they are the suede/ alcatara seats you. May just need to brush them, as the nap on the material may need lifting

Any update @weyland?

Sorry, I haven't been getting alerts that people were commenting on this post. Update is the supplying dealer is not interested as he say's Skoda would never accept it as a warranty claim. if it's not warranty then they are not interested. Skoda UK are also similarly dis-interested in helping.

It is almost impossible to photograph, so like you I would be asking to see pics, but the marks just don't show up like they do in real life.

I've tried cleaning the seats with upholstery cleaner but it has only made it worse, so my advice would be to be very careful cleaning these seats! I'm not really too happy about this, as after 5 months and 5k, they look worse than the Tiguan I just handed back which was unmarked after 2 years and 20k 😡

It might also be worthwhile for anyone else with a Karoq Sportline who has problems to report them here and perhaps a number of us owners could all approach Skoda UK with a complaint which may kick-start some action from the dealers.

You could always try and get them independently assessed; AA or Google what organisation is responsible for dealing with upholstery or fabrics and get them to assess.

Or even try the Motoring Ombudsman

From personal experience, I 'bounce' my two local dealerships off each other; whatever one says it's not a warranty issue, I'll normally go straight round to  the other who will say it is as its a well known issue!

By far my worst dealership experience in over 30 (😪) years of car ownership.

I noticed something similar on mine. It had been parked up facing south during lockdown and it looked like the fabric had faded in the sun

I'm  putting  this topic to bed as I'm  just about to hand my Sportline back early for other reasons,  however the fabric  on these seats is terrible- whenever you press down hard on the seat it leaves a white mark & the fabric looks stained from simply sitting in them. Really disappointed  by that, fortunately vwfs haven't picked up on it!

Have you had any problems?

I'm really surprised by this problem as I haven't noticed the marks on Karoq Sportlines in a showroom, and you'd have thought their seats get well used by would-be customers getting in and out of the cars. I'd have thought they would have more bums on seats than most privately owned cars? So is it limited to a particular production period I wonder?

Yes I agree, no international owners (With better weather condition than us) have any problems with the UV rays damaging the seats?

I'm from Croatia and also got those white spots on my sportline seats - car is mostly parked in an underground garage but when outside sun is really strong so I wouldn't be surprised these spots are caused by the sun

I've only had the car for 10 months..

Spoken to a friend (Has a Sportline fir around 18 months now) and check his seat, not noticed anything on them to be honest

I’ve got sportline and no problems with seats so far however I always ensure sunshade roof lining is closed when parked up.

  • 3 years later...

I am having these exact same issues in my 2022 Kamiq Monte Carlo. Water-marks on seats and wearing of surface of fabric as if some sort of coating is coming off. I'm in Aus so it is quite hot however I always use a sunshade. With all the problems I have had with this car I will never buy a Skoda ever again.

We’ve a 2020 Karoq Sportline and there’s occasionally similar issues on the drivers seat, looks like watermarks? I assumed I’d spilt something, although very rarely drink in the car, so I shampooed seats left them to dry and all ok but a few days later there were a few marks reappearing although the seat was dry.  Marks disappear when given a rub. Strange 🤔
Anyone had any idea what may be the cause.  Could it be something with the seat wadding?

I contacted Škoda UK to see if this was a known issue, they simply referred me to the dealers as it’s something they believe that should be looked at under warranty. Did that, but as anticipated the dealers don’t want to know saying that the warranty department won’t cover staining and as there’s no record of there ever having been any protection applied to the seats they’ll not entertain any further investigation.
So that may be that then? Seems it’s only an issue with the Sportline seats; are they of a different construction to other seats?

By way of an update I’ve been back on to Customer Services (think they need to rethink that name, not sure who they’re serving) and eventually received an email advising that the dealers won’t clean the seats, they’re not covered by any warranty however . . . . . . .they can sell me seat covers 😂 The cover for the rear of the seat is £177 plus vat, the base section £147 plus vat. Well that’s a real bargain, over £380 to deal with an issue that’s not of my doing. She asked if I’m interested 🤔
