Facelift Headlight Seals

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Upon arriving at home today I noticed that the seal that surrounds the headlight assembly has partially come off the unit. I've had a quick Google and searched the forum, but can't seem to find anything on it.

Anyone know a place where I could find a replacement? (Hard mode: not a dealer 😉) It's a facelift model by the way.

Which seal? Do you have a picture?

For the lack of a better picture, see the badly photoshopped red line. It's the one that goes around the perimeter of the front of the headlight assembly to stop dust from getting in. I'll get a better picture in the morning.

I've had my headlights out a few times and never noticed a seal there.

There is some black plastic along the top of the headlight where the lens attaches which could be breaking away but certainly no seal.

Here's the photo of the seal! Any clues?

Cool, looking at that, a few images online and the parts diagram, I'm afraid to say it seems to be part of the headlight and isn't available separately. I'd never even noticed it :)

As for the fix, you probably need to remove the headlight and either use some double sided 3m tape or adhesive to reattach it. Be slightly careful as polycarbonate (headlight lens) can react badly to some glues.

If you've never had a headlight out, this video might help. The lever can be stiff if it's not been used for a while:

Was afraid that'll be the case. I'll see if I can come up with a nice easy DIY solution then.

Cheers lang!

Think it is to give a firm fit against the wing and bonnet panels.  I don't think it seals the headlight assembly. Just remove and try to glue back down or remove the damaged bit.

You're right, it doesn't. Might be the best idea.

Unfortunately not mate. All i did was tuck the separated part of the rubber seal under the fender and it hasn't moved since. Not elegant but I'm not too fussed as the car is currently on the market anyway! Like TheClient said, a bit of glue would probably be the best way of doing it.

thats all ive done with mine for now too!

i may have a proper look and see if i can think and easy way around it...

aka, pick a decent type of adhesive to try..

Hi, wondering if you managed to make progress with this? Bought a second hand Scout this time last year. Had the headlight out in the summer to replace bulb. Didn't notice anything then. Now have an embarrassing flappy seal. Not keen on the idea of replacing the whole head set out!

I just ripped mine out as it was doing my head in - it was split so even sticking it down or wedging it behind things it kept finding its way out.  As other posters have said it doesn't actually seal the light unit and you can't buy it separately so not much you can do really.

I now have this issue too. I took the car for a drive last week after having the gearbox repaired. When I got home one of the seals was hanging out.

I'm guessing 200km/h was enough to loosen it! Oops!

Might try gluing it or something.

i still just have mine pulled back in and tucked into a small gap between 2 overlapping pieces of metal framing to hold them in (both side are gone :D ).

couldnt really see a way of getting enough contact surface to stick them back securely and not have it look a bit ****e

I just pulled mine off and they look fine and haven't had any issues with the headlights in terms of water getting in them etc.  This was over a year ago
