Fabia VRS Newbie questions

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I've been reading around the forum and found answers to a lot of questions but a few still remain. I've only had my fabia mk2 vrs two weeks and my previous car was a Hyundai Matrix so everything is a universe apart!

Apologies if my answerd are here somewhere and if I should ask each question separately. The owner's manual has been helpful too.

1) DSG gearbox oil - nothing in my service history says the oil has been changed, or if it is fully synthetic or mineral oil. I've read that at very high temperatures the fully synthetic oil caused issues and Skoda changed to mineral oil, but being organic that degrades over time and so should be changed. I've read the change should be around 40,000 miles/4 years. Mine has just ticked over to 46,000 miles and 6 years.

2) Mirrors. They have a heated switch but don't seem to be electrically foldable and a friend who has a scirocco says don't manually push heated mirrors in (dubious?). Due to narrow roads where I park I have pushed in the nearside mirror (very stiff) but cannot get the driver's mirror to budge at all. Is this normal?

3) Cannot find a cruise control button. I thought this was standard?

4) Can the digital speed at the bottom of the MFD display be changed to read mph? The units are set to imperial and miles and fine for economy and distance but I still get a kmh digital speed.

Thanks in advance.

5) Despite a health Mot history and seemingly being serviced regularly there's a receipt for a full service which also includes a new turbo and all the hoses and paraphernalia that goes with it. It's set the previous owner back over £1,200 and was done last year at about 33k miles. Would that worry you as a buyer that it has been replaced so early in the car's mileage/age it would you think it's good that it's so new. There are no warning signs that anything is wrong now as far as I and the dashboard can tell.

Welcome.

When was your car first registered?

You can push in the mirrors if needs must. Take care.

Cruise Control was not standard, maybe just on the S2000.

The DQ200 DSG has no Service Schedule.

When was it built, after late 2012 it might have Mineral in from the factory, some 2013-2015 have a Service Campaign that they may need '34H5' a Software update.

2010-2012/13 the MCU oil might have been changed to Mineral, 34F7 Service Campaign & Software Update.

The km can be a big MPH, change to Australian or whatever.  Someone will explain. Or search. Plenty threads.

Turbo,

you will see a member needed a Turbo in the past week here.

That is 2 now mentioned recently, not been a common issue though in the life of members here with Mk2 vRS Fabia.  If replaced then job done.

1) DSG OIL i am told by my tuning shop that it should be done by 100K Miles. He has seen the oil go bad in these DSG accross VW range, but strips down those that race round tracks at weekend. I am not worried by this yet and i am at 50K Miles, doesnt seem like a straightforward known procedure and may do more harm than good if not done right

3) Mine is on the Left Hand side of the Stalk, Its got a tiny up, down button (on the end) when its on a green speed light comes on the dash, only the brake pedal will disengage it, Accelerator will not work when its on, i never use it (previous owner must have had it fitted as an extra)

There was no factory for option for electrically fold-able wing mirrors (as previously said) both can be pushed in manually.

My mother has to manually fold her Fabia's mirrors in each time it is put in the garage and it does not take any effort to pull in.

So it could be that yours hasn't been used or the mirror has been previously damaged and the plastic is not aligned.

It might be worth taking them apart and cleaning the plastic and inspect them for damage.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully in time I'll be able to help out new members in the future.

If you buy one, depsite the potential horror stories (note most cars have them but you read about them only when looking to buy) , they are a great fun, fast car........love mine !! (when I get to drive it lol)

I'm very happy with mine so far. It's my first 'decent' car (first one that cost more than £1,500 and less than ten years old).

Now that I have it of course I am trying not to worry about the horror stories rather than just enjoying it!
